Milkshakes?

Ok I admit I don’t drink them too often… so what’s the difference between a milkshake and a smoothie?

and what’s a good basic recipe for a milkshake?

I tried to make strawberry milkshake and its just…meh. It was just berries and milk…and it was all seedy and watery :-/

Re: Milkshakes?

milkshake: milk based, usually with ice cream
smoothie: fruit, ice and yogurt

For milkshakes I think you can do without the ice cream, if need be. My family makes mango milkshakes all the time without ice cream. Mango, milk, ice and blend. I think you need to add ice...then it won't be watery.

Re: Milkshakes?

Yeah I don't want to add ice cream or condensed milk or too much sugar....

Woudln't ice make it too crunchy or something

Re: Milkshakes?

Would some strawberry syrup make it better?

Re: Milkshakes?

instead of making it with ice cream or condensed milk, put in about a cup of strawberries, strawberry yogurt, milk, and a little bit of equal or another sugar substitute if you dont want real sugar. Comes out super yum!

Re: Milkshakes?

oh and dont put the strawberries in all at once. you know the hole on the top of the blender? pop them in thru there onen at time

Re: Milkshakes?

Milkshake:Milk based.No yogurt.
Smoothie:Yogurt based.

To avoid it being watery and not having to use icecubes,I prefer using frozen fruit.Like if I am making mango shake (actually the only one I ever make),I peel and cube a fresh mango and freeze it and use it to make the shake.Just pop the fresh fruits in the freezer for a while till they freeze and then make the shake.
Try it,it wont be watery..!

Milkshakes?

Yesterday Niks made Kesar falooda milkshake that I had one hour after Iftar. Man that was good

Re: Milkshakes?

Re: Milkshakes?

I use crushed ice from the fridge and then with the milk in the blender it becomes smooth......it isn't ever crunchy.

TLK bhai pls ask niks to share recipe. I would love to try it

Re: Milkshakes?

Mango milk shake :yummy:

Re: Milkshakes?

If you dont want to put ice cream, put some yogurt. You can use frozen fruits, like frozen strawberries and bananas, the frozen fruit adds a nice texture. Can also add honey or vanilla extract if you dont want to use ice cream or sugar for sweetening

Very simple to make, just play around until you find the right combinations for you. Here is a good resource to help you get started:

Re: Milkshakes?

Shakes have Milk

Smoothies have no Milk in them

Re: Milkshakes?

What Guac said.

Also I've learnt that milkshakes taste best when they are made with frozen fruits. For eg. for one glass strawberry milkshake use: 4-5 strawberries, half glass milk, 1-2 tbsp sugar (depends on you), some ice cubes and one large tbsp of vanilla icecream. Turns out awesome every time!

Re: Milkshakes?

^ depends what fruit u r using

Shakes of Banana or Mango always tastes with fresh fruit....

Re: Milkshakes?

For me mango milkshakes tastes the same fresh or frozen. For banana milkshake I can't say because I haven't tried frozen bananas. =)

Re: Milkshakes?

I do a hybrid of these two methods...if i'm using strawberries, than it's frozen...but like d6c bhai said, bananas are always fresh! And I also do the large tbsp of ice cream...either vanilla or chocolate, depending on the flavor of shake and fruit combo I want.
