Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

Do you believe everything in the media? Or only stuff that agrees with your preconceived notions and biases?

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

@Melancholi
@Kakaballi

You are going over board here.

I have read the reporting by washington post, they have not mentioned any misbehavior towards stewardess. Rather they have reported that a casual comment by one of the officers was taken as "dangerous", and control tower was informed who grounded the flight. Apparently the officer commenting on the long flight from Pak to Washington and then enroute said, i hope this is my last one or something to that effect.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

lets not get hysterical, where does it say they did not obey the law ??

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

For all Army haters, its not the case of misbehavior towards stewardess. At least read before you comment.

Pakistani officials leaving in protest
By Craig Whitlock

A delegation of senior Pakistani military officials visiting the United States for a major defense conference headed home in protest Tuesday night after they said they were interrogated and rudely treated by security officials at Dulles International Airport.

The nine-member group of high-ranking Pakistani officers boarded United Airlines Flight 727 from Washington to Tampa late Sunday but were pulled off the plane after one of them "made a comment to a flight attendant," said Mike Trevino, a United spokesman.

United did not provide details, but Pakistani officials said the remark came from a general in the delegation who - weary of a long day of travel that began in Islamabad - said, "I hope this is my last flight," or words to that effect.

That sparked a call to Dulles law enforcement officials, who detained the delegation for 2.5 hours and refused to allow the officials to contact their embassy or the U.S. military officials who had invited them to visit, according to a Pakistani military official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Pakistanis were finally released after police at Dulles determined they did not pose a threat. But instead of proceeding to Tampa, the delegation was ordered to return to Pakistan by their military superiors in Islamabad, in protest of their treatment, the Pakistani official said, adding that they were "verbally abused." The group of officers spent the next 48 hours in Washington, waiting for the next available flight home, and were scheduled to depart the United States on Tuesday evening.

The Pakistani officers were originally en route to U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa to attend the annual conference of the U.S.-Pakistan Military Consultative Committee, said Maj. David Nevers, a Central Command spokesman. He said Centcom officials hoped to reschedule the conference.

Pakistani officials said they received apologies from Pentagon and Centcom officials.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

 ridiculous when we doubt our own at the drop of a hat

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

How easily people believe crap.

Good that they returned back :salute:
yesterday i was alraedy hoping they would come back when i heard this news.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

Not saying that they would not have been mistreated. Not saying they made a wrong decision to return.

Just saying that these generals and brigadiers treat ordinary Pakistanis the same way they got treated. When they act like gods in Pakistan, why expect dear Uncle Sam to act differently for Pakistanis? Specially when you go begging to the same country every now and then. This incident should be taken as a reality check for our top military brass.

Those generals got what ordinary Pakistanis get when they act cool on flights to USA. They are partly to blame for creating this situation ('trust deficit' as they call these days) as well. This is 'standard safety procedures' for flights coming from Pakistan.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

anything to justify our personal biases even if its in the name of national dignity and then we wonder what went wrong, don't have to look far to find the answers.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

Britain’s Daily Telegraph is quoting the officer as having said:

“I hope this is the final plane to the destination” .

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

Next time Pakistan should demand a special plane from US to bring military brass to USA for these high ranking meetings.
Enough of third class treatment of our forces who are losing their lives to fighting a fight which was started by USA .

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

I can't believe how quickly people are willing to abandon faith in our own.
Shame on you all.

Now that I've said that.......the stories of abuse of power and authority in Pakistan are plentiful.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

^ very true, but as far as this incident is concerned those stories are completely inconsequential and unwarranted. humiliating and degrading a foreign senior delegation travelling in an official capacity is very serious business and should be looked upon as such.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

Brigadiers misbehaving with Americans? Pakistanis endure such treatment courtesy their overfunded and underperforming military all the time. Great to hear that SOMEONE can put these shmucks in their place (which honestly is really the barracks, but nevermind).

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

mashallah. so full of hot air. maybe next time they'll say no the millions of dollars they get from the US during their illegal rule too.

reminds me of that jackass General Tahir Ashraf who thinks it's beneath him to answer to the parliament. jarnails like that should be dismissed from service asap. if Obama can dismiss Mchrystal for his comments during the middle of the Afghan war, Tahir Ashraf types should be dismissed as well. until we bring these jarnails back down to earth, this army will continue to produce more Ayubs, Yahyas, Zias and Musharrafs. and this country cannot afford more traitor jarnails.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

some hillbilly type got freaked out because he heard a brown man say I hope this is the final place to my destination? nice.. although not surprising.

The bigger issue is that when the local authorities were told who these guys were, and their approach and speed of resolution of this. I see no issue with someone saying, sorry this is not going to fly and return. whether it was Pakistan, Japan, or Burkina Faso.

not sure what the behavior of some military officers in Pakistan has to do with this incidence. if we are so quick to ascribe the stereotypical behavior of some bad apples in the armed forces to the entire military personnel, then please take the stereotypical image of the muslim militants and apply it to yourself.

'Nuff said

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

and so are those of general corruption, ranging from cab drivers charging more than the regular fare to cops getting bribes to people skipping taxes and stealing electricity, farmers stealing water. Those are plentiful too.

but hey if people (not you) in this thread want to malign all military then lets start talking about those selfish power abusing crooks like rashid minhas, aziz bhatti, Major tufail etc as well.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

well said.

edit:
Ok so now that there are more news reports about this i am removing some of my earlier comments(I was referring dawn report).

but still stand by my comments about army elite and its behavior towards common pakistanis. But its for another thread maybe

a poster made a remark about being insulted at an army base, news for you if you actually live in pakistan you will get this bloody civilian attitude every day and every place, instead of waving green flag with one hand and holding blue/red passport in the other i would suggest to you delusional half gora paper patriots to actually go and live and feel pakistan.

Re: Military officers cancel trip after humiliation at US airport

Do you know the difference between top military brass and ordinary military personnel? Probably you do not have to suffer because of elitist behavior of our brigadiers and generals. The people living in Pakistan do.

I am sorry, but the brave people you mentioned had to sacrifice their lives because of unnecessary wars designed by then senseless generals.
