Sahaba; because they lived with prophet so if they were the best followers and role models for all of us. If they did not do anything, there is no need for us to do.

BTW, my argument is going to clash with your basic beleif so I am not going to further argue on Caliphs comment of yours but Prophet did appoint Abu Bakr as the next leader of ummat. When he asked Abu Bakr to lead the prayers during his last times, he indicated that Abu Bakr is going to be the next caliph

i know we wont go any where with that but i gave u something to think about. We Muslims follow and obey prophet s.a.w coz he did and say everything on ALLAH’s command which isnt true for Sahaba’s, If Leader was already picked then why did great sahaba’s of Prophet s.a.w miss funeral of Prophet s.a.w.

I remember reading a hadith in my recent past, where a sahabi commited Sucide i will try to find the source if u want. Point is if following shabas is something we shld do then leaving prophet s.a.w alone in war is sunnat of some sahaba too, which is against Quran.

Its shame that muslims call praising Prophet s.a.w Bidda !
