WASHINGTON - Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination to be a Supreme Court justice Thursday in the face of stiff opposition and mounting criticism about her qualifications.
****Bush has decided to go with Sam Alito. Great Diversity for this country, the only women Bush though could handle the job was Miers, how telling of the GOP, so now we get another white conservative conservative male, to please his religious base, no surprise. Bring it on monkey boy. ****

I guess we can say that about anything can't we? From Iraq to the war on terror, "just put a lid on it and let the process work". Scandal and corruption is what the Republican Party has become and you want to sit back while they drive this country further into the ground to make the religious right happy?
Why wasn't the process allowed to work when the nominee was rejected by the radical right? Because they are the core base that supports this administration and that is all he has left. They own this president and for all the Americans that fear political Islam this should scare the hell out of you too.
Princton Yale guy with conservative views. Also, he once voted to uphold the law that required women to tell their husbands before having an abortion. I think the Republicans got what they were looking for. God help us all !!!
"I don't think there can be any question that Alito's ideology is a conservative one. While I don't think he's the kind of guy, because of his respect for the institution of the judiciary, who would seek to overturn precedent in a radical sort of way, I think he has the creativity and indeed the intelligence that chip away at existing precedents in a way I think some of us will regret over the years."
-Lawrence Lustberg, criminal defense attorney and friend of Alito
What, did you think Bush would nominate Hillary or something? Yes, he is going to nominate a conservative. That is what the people who elected him expect him to do. That was a campaign promise. Now what problem do you have with a guy who was unanimously confirmed by the Senate to his curren judgeship? One decision on notifying husbands about abortions? I have news for you, I think husbands Should be notified, and responsible..... A little sour grapes here as Bush gets to fill two seats in rapid succession.... Perhaps a third before he is gone...
Sour grapes? That was 2000 when the razor thin court majority handed him the election. Bush has zero political capital at this point and hopefully that will not allow him to cater to the radical religious right. After his years of lying and scheming, he is lucky the impeachment process hasn’t begun. Just like the ‘Christian’ groups he represents - moral
While we we all knew this was coming, a court slightly to left of Hitler, it doesn’t minimize the harm that this will do to our country for decades to come. Every freedom-loving American should demand that the court be more diversified thanthan the white, male, rich, Christian packed joke that it has become.
It's a sad OG that he has chosen another white male but fairly predictable after the religious right smacked the limp President down for nominating a woman last time around. As myvoice stated awhile back Alberto Gonzales would have been a fine choice.
And OG you think it should be a law that the husband be notified if their wife decides to have an abortion?
I think the left wing would have crucified Gonzalez on his decisions and participation in Guantanamo. Frankly who cares if he is a white man. The idea is to get the smartest and most capable. Let's face it, if Bush breathes through his nose, you would claim that he is doing it wrong and he should breathe through his mouth...
And yes, I am a big believer in husbands being responsible in marriages, and as such they should share in the rights in the marriages. How can a child be soley the mothers until it is born, then the father shares half of the responsibility, legaly morally and ethically? Fathers have rights too. The only exception to that would be incases of rape, incest, or medical harm to the mother, in which case the child would not be the fathers, or the life of the mother would be threated. (or if the child is genetically proven not to be the husbands, but that is a whole 'nuther discussion)
UTD, let me answer this question…Yes…if my wife is pregnant, that baby is as much mine as hers…it should be a mutual decision. She SHOULD not only notify me, she better have a DAMN GOOD EXCUSE to do it too.
