Had my makeup trial today. Loved the makeup, hair…not so much. Now I’m confused about what to do with my hair.
I had originally wanted a middle part like these:
But my mother told me that I won’t be able to wear a jhoomar with that kind of style. And she said that the reason those girls hair probably looks like that is because they have bangs. I have zero experience with hair styling so no idea.
I wanted to wear a nath, tikka, jhoomar so now I’m lost as to what to do.
Any ideas?
I have an oval face and I usually part my hair on the side. I have no bangs but longer layers with my hair going to my mid back at this point.
My mother suggested something like this:
I REALLY like the middle part though. There’s something really classic about it…
I think you can pull it off with a middle part too!
have you seen the old song chaltey chaltey from movie pakeezah? ... look at that vid ... she has a big jhoomer, teeka n middle part (i think ... u cant see the part cuz of all the jewlery and dupatta). love love her look and dupatta setting .... very classic.
I had my duppatta set like that for my barat ....... something v regal about it ..... anyhoo i digress ...
why dont u do a quick n dirty trial at home ... do a middle part and put n your jewelry and take a couple of pics ...... get a rough idea.
i much prefer the middle part! and you can experiment with it too.. in the first picture the hair is volumized and going upwards whereas in the second picture its kind of going downwards and covers the top of her ears. i personally really like the second pic and i think the jhoomar will look really nice with it :)
I’ve actually noticed that too. none of the “hip” new popular salons/hair stylists have any pics of brides with middle parts. Side parts seem to be the norm. I part my hair on the side normally too.
i think it depends on a lot of things… i had a middle part with jhoomar & teeka not too long ago on my wedding… more than fashion it matters what hairstyle looks good on you. Personally I am not liking any of the Natasha Salon brides these days - the makeup and hair is way too over the top - bride looks nothing like they paint them out to be, which i am not a fan of. Also it’s always better to choose different hairstyles for different wedding events. Recently Diya Mirza got married, and I loved her hair + makeup for all events. here are a few mid part examples:
However you part your hair, I think they key is to have some texture and volume. What dates a style is when it's flat against your head. And I agree with ehl- do a trial even if it's just at home, although you should definitely do one with your MUA too if she'll be doing your hair that day, but at least play around at home to see if you even like the look on you vs. just thinking you'll like it.

the middle parts of the girls around here are all completely flat and you're right--definitely looks dated. I dont' know if its just those girls preference or the MUA's skill level but I've seen the look you're talking about. I have a bigger/rounder face than most (and worse now since I've put on 20 lbs) so I think I should wait till I lose the weight (in the process now) and see where I stand closer to the wedding with my hair style and face shape. She did the middle part on me at the trial and I looked like a clown but that may have been because my face is SO big right now that it makes it look wider vs narrower.
That said, it's good you are open to other looks. Sometimes what we think will look amazing on us just doesn't work and what we never considered is what looks fabulous. Do a Pinterest search and see what pops up - remember any look can withstand a desi set up with enough hair spray!
