Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson Not Indicted In Michael Brown Shooting

CLAYTON, Mo. – A grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch announced Monday.
The Aug. 9 death of Brown, who was unarmed, sparked massive demonstrations in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson and a national conversation on race and law enforcement. Activists had predicted a new wave of demonstrations if Wilson was not indicted – not only in Ferguson, but in the greater St. Louis region and in other cities across the country.
McCulloch’s office had said he would release full transcripts of the grand jury proceedings if the panel decided not to indict the police officer. McCulloch’s office took an unusual approach to the grand jury process by simply presenting the panel with all the evidence but not recommending any specific charges against Wilson.
Witnesses to Brown’s shooting who have publicly spoken about their recollectionslargely told the same story about the events that led to his death.
It is well established that Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking in the middle of a quiet residential street near the home of Brown’s grandmother when Wilson confronted them shortly after noon on Saturday, Aug. 9. The witnesses who spoke publicly said there was an initial confrontation between Brown and Wilson through the window of his police SUV – some said they thought Wilson was trying to pull Brown in, while Wilson has reportedly said that Brown reached for his weapon.
Wilson reportedly fired one shot out the window, and witnesses claim that Brown took off running. Wilson emerged from the vehicle, and Brown at some point turned around. Many witnesses who have spoken publicly said that Brown looked like he was trying to surrender and put his hands in the air as Wilson shot the final fatal rounds. Wilson reportedly contends that Brown was headed back toward him.

The Washington Post, meanwhile, reported that seven or eight witnesses largely backed up Wilson’s account of the shooting in testimony before the grand jury. Those witnesses, like most of the people in Ferguson, are African-American.
When Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson released Wilson’s name on Aug. 15, the police department simultaneously released a video that appeared to show Brown stealing cigars from a convenience store not long before the shooting and shoving a clerk when he was confronted. Jackson has since said that Wilson was not aware that Brown had been involved in any alleged robbery when the officer spotted him on the street.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

Internet is erupted with messages condemning this decision as there were expectactions of atleast some charges over the cops.
Here is a short video of Michael Brown in the store for which he was thought as the guilty and shot dead.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

This was not a surprise. Didn't watch TV. For the outcome was predictable.

Today we hang our heads in shame.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

some disruption has already started in front of the court house. expect widespread rioting in and around Ferguson...it may reach as far as Chicago, Detroit and Los Angeles just like it did after acquital of white officer by a white jury in the beating case of Rodney King in LA.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

The kid was thug & I for one don't feel sorry for him.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

So you don't believe in 'Innocent till proven guilty' or judge/jury or law or order. If a guy has a badge, it serves as a license to kill?

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

What is wrong with you?

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

The jury has spoken & the verdict is not guilty. And when you attack police expect to pay b/c the are legally allowed to use lethal force.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

Nothing is wrong with me, but black people in this country have "I'm a victim mentality". Look at that overgrown a$$ attacking a gas station owner. Do you think he was not willing to go after policeman? One less thug=safer & better society.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

This was the grand jury on Wilson's culpability; not on Michael Brown's guilt. They should have indicted him and let a court sort it out in the open. Just coz he pushed the store owner, does not mean he deserves to die.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson shooting

Fortunately this country has a lot of decent people who will not blame the victim. There will be lots of people with a heart and soul who will not call the victim a thug and say he deserved it.

Disgusting verdict. And equally disgusting post earlier.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson shooting

Ferguson is burning already

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

I know what grand jury is & reason they did not indicted him was b/c there was not enough evidence to support the case. Also, there were witnesses who saw the confrontation between MB and the policeman.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

There were also witnesses that said he was trying to surrender. That is the problem with Grand Jury. Every thing is behind closed doors. Regardless, to say Brown deserved to die is pretty stupid.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

Grand jury is one sided affair where prosecutor brings charges & defense is not allowed to present its side of the story. Btw, if you were that gas station owner who was rubbed by this thug I bet you would have different opinion. MB was hardy an innocent kid murdered by police...he was a thug with long & troubled history.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson, missouri shooting

Maybe I would. But I still wouldn't want to kill the kid for a pack of cigarettes he stole. Dont matter what his history is, we live in a civil society and he deserves the due process. No one has the right to kill him without one.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson shooting

First of all, per the video it is not clear that person is Brown. Secondly, there are witnesses that state he was not attacking the police. Thirdly, such cases of being shot while black is all too common.

It is shameful to conclude this kid deserved to die because he MAY have walked away with some stuff. Utterly shameful. Immoral. And ignorant to draw such a conclusion. Not to mention inhuman. To pour salt into the wound of the mother who has lost a son. What is with people these days.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson shooting

Oh please get off your high horse & stop preaching. If the parents were doing their job he would not be dead. In any case, here his criminal history. He was 6ft tall and around 300lb.

Re: Michael Brown case:Verdict announced in Ferguson shooting

I would suggest you get off your low horse.

In the video, they called the pushing as some sort of armed robbery (I forget the exact phrase).

So he had some run ins. What the heck does that have to do with being shot in cold blood while surrendering.
