Captain Sahib, when the Buddah were destroyed, it was a loss to the entire world. But remember, the Taliban justified it in terms of their religion. They did it because they said their religion mandated that no images be allowed. You did not see Pakistani embassies go up in flames, you did not see Muslim diplomats taken hostage.
In Denmark, it is ok to hurt anyones religious sentiments. Wether it should be done or not is another matter.

Taliban didn’t justify it based on Islam, they attacked it because there were some swedish or other people trying to fix a stone with hundreds of thousands of dollars while children starved to death in same country, what would you fix? a stone or dying children?

Also, it was a “Buddha” statue, if it were a “Hindu” statue, Christian or Jewish entity I’m sure more than Afghanistan would’ve been burnt to ashes.

SA Muslims to boycott Danish products

South African Muslims called for a boycott of all Danish products with immediate effect, during a protest march in Cape Town’s CBD today against Danish-penned cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed. The Judicial Council (MJC) called for an immediate and unwavering apology from the Danish prime minister and the Danish government to the global Muslim community, as well as immediate “reproach” of the editor of the Jyllands-Posten newspaper, which first published the offensive cartoons. “We demand that (it) be implemented before the embargo against Danish products is lifted,” read a memorandum handed over to Torben Brylle, the Danish ambassador.

The MJC, which organised the march attended by thousands of Muslims today, registered its disgust at what it called an infringement of their human rights and religious dignity. “The intention of the cartoonist was clearly to undermine the Holy and Noble Character of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) who is revered by over 1.6 billion Muslims the world over,” read the memorandum. It accused the Danish newspaper of taking the principle of freedom of speech to a “very dangerous, irresponsible and unacceptable” level by showing a disregard for the sensitivities and fundamental tenets of Islam, while proclaiming to uphold the highest ethical standards based on freedom and respect. The MJC said with freedom came responsibility and accountability, with the paper in this regard failing a large part of the international community

This is somewhat off topic, but the Taliban were refusing to give up their “guests” because Islamic law and their customs did not allow it. The reason the cartoons were drawn wasn't because of any verses from the Quran. Any judgement on Islam or Quran is based on the actions of Muslims who got their inspiration from their interpretation of Islam or Quran (or hadith).

muslims hav given islam a bad name .rest is precipitated by the media or maybe media operations r crystal clear and islam indeed is a bad religion.this cud have turned into a very good chance to show r solidarity n union as a muslim ummah united,but we did the emotional thing and made matters worse.boycotting wud have cost a lot to the economies of the muslim countries in itself n due to wto policies but it wud have had a very profound n devastating impact on the whole world.unfortunately muslims will not think abt the future,this is a blood borne trait we have, act first think later. but its abt the civilised world and islam, not christians and muslims.lets face it,we r gonna lose like always as there r far more civilized people than there r christians.

If cartoons really wanted to show “muslims” as bad executers of Islamic rules then they could 've very well used Osama BL’s, Saddam Hussein’s faces for all I care, but when you use the Prophet to depict terrorism/bad acts of “some” then it only means that you are blaming the root for all the actions of “some”.

Have you seen the Jewish "entities" in the arab papers?
Hindus did not set Afghanistan alight when the Taliban required Hindus and Sikhs to wear and orange star on their sleeves.

How can you possibly think a cartoon of your idol is insulting to your religion but consider such draconian measures as branding minorities as not insulting to the religion? Baffling.
