re: [Merged] Billu Barber

so its basically a snooze fest??

Shahrukh Khan is busy promoting his latest home production Billu Barber directed by Priyadarshan. It was reported that barbers in India have taken offense saying that it is derogatory to refer to someone as ‘barber’ and requested that the name be changed to ‘hairdresser’ instead of ‘barber.
Shahrukh Khan has addressed this issue assuring that he will change the name of the film from Billu Barber to Billu. Just a few days before its release and after all the publicity we wonder how Shahrukh will manage to do that. :hmmm:

Name: Billu Barber
**Cast: **Shahrukh Khan, Irrfan Khan, Lara Dutta
Special Appearances by: Kareena, Deepika and Priyanka
Director: Priyadarshan
Producer: Gauri Khan

Billu Barber’ is a story of a simple ordinary man who led an extraordinary life. It’s a story set in today’s day and age.
Bilas Rao Pardesi was living in his village with his wife Bindiya (Lara Dutta) and two great kids. He is known as Billu (Irrfan Khan), a village barber. Life was bitter sweet…we can say more sweet than bitter.
But his business is running low because he has not been able to upgrade himself according to the changing trends.
One day a superstar came into their lives and everything changed. A film unit visits his village to shoot a movie. It stars a superstar Sahir Khan (Shahrukh Khan), who was once Billu’s school friend.
All at once, Billu’s status in the village changes, and he becomes highly respected. Everyone wants him to meet the superstar.
But Billu is unsure, as he feels he cannot match the superstar’s status. Besides, he fears that the star may not recognize him. He makes many attempts to meet the star, but fails. After all these hardships, he gives up.
But people think that Billu lied about the relationship with the star and start insulting him. His family and children also gets upset.
Life changed, people changed, friends changed, the village changed but one man did not…. Billu Barber.
Will this ordinary man redefine the word ordinary? Will the world see the greatness behind his small existence? And most of all, will life ever be the same for ‘Billu Barber’ again?”

re: [Merged] Billu Barber

though i like the songs, im kinda tired of him doing “item songs” with other actresses…om shanti…rab ne…and now this too:smack:

Billu Bore Bore!!

In a Priyadarshan film you will expect simple pleasures of life in the backdrop of a common life, humor in a heart touching story. Billu ‘attempts’ to give you the same but it fails. Bollywood forms a backdrop but very superficial, it doesn’t sink in unlike Luck By Chance where the filmdom is portrayed in its originality (exaggerated only for the purpose of sarcasm and humor). But here one wonders what is the purpose of showing Shahrukh Khan descending down in a space ship and dancing with a girl or fighting strange people with masks in the rain. All this is completely unconnected to the film.
Manisha Korde’s witty dialogues try to bring in the comic element but they could not bear the load of a flat script. The movie is just not exciting enough. Not the story and not even the performances. Irrfan Khan glides through his role comfortably. Lara Dutta is too chic to play a pakki gaon wali, she was such an annoying misfit through the role. Shahrukh Khan plays himself; there is nothing new about that. All he does is sing and dance. In the end he gets a full 10 minute soliloquy which conveniently concludes the film.
Sahir and Billu are supposed to be friends but there is nothing in the film that gives an account of their friendship… not even a flash back until the last scenes. There is no lesson in the film too although there was plenty of scope in the story for a moral message (like the film’s tagline its beautiful to be ordinary). I expected Billu to tell the village people to like him for what he is not because he is a superstar’s friend.

Nothing great… Avoid if u can…

Billu Barber

So, how did you find it if you watched it already and if you haven't watched it yet, then do you plan to do so?

I watched it today and liked it a lot. Shahrukh Khan will always remain Shahrukh Khan so what I could say about him and his role isn't that long either...Irfan Khan was brilliant as always and his character was very simple, humble, and sweet...Overall, it's a pretty good movie...

Re: Billu Barber

really? good enough to watch on the big screen?

Re: Billu Barber

just watched it...mhmmhhm...its good. song were unnecessary, but still its fun...lara is good, irfan khan is good...i like it. esp cuz of the simplicity and what life really is about :), we can all get a different message out of it..and just appreciate...

If you like movies in which story line, characters, setting, mood etc. are simple and close to real life, then sure!

Re: Billu Barber
