Menu on Iftar dawats ..

Hi all,

I am so curious always :cb:

We will all have some degree of Iftar invites from friends and family and our own Iftar dawat hosting as well… Please share the menu at the dawats you attend and you host.

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

I am going to one today inshallah ... will come back and report the menu ...

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

please do … i have my son’s first b-day on thursday and am inviting a few family and friends round

and dont know what to put on the menu :bummer: any ideas guys?

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

I got invited to one today (yaayyyy), but thats like 2 weeks from now :(

You will have to wait. sigh

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

In my family...it would go something like this.

Iftar would incclude dates, fruit chaat, samosay, and dehi baray

Dinner would include biryani, a vegetable dish such as palak or chanay, a chicken dish (baked or grilled), a dark meat salan such as korma. We may or may not have seekh kababs.

Dessert is usually either a halwa or a zarda. Though my mom has also made kulfi popsicles too...which were fun.

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

Hadeel dont forget to update us after the dawat :)

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

So...how did it go cb??

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

It was alright …

The menu was :

Fruit Chat
Rice kabab
Dates

Nihari
Keema
Daal
Chicken boti grilled
Vegetable Rice
Pita bread

Icecream & Cake

The presentation of the food was horrible … there were about 12 adults and 6 kids and the food was in really small portions …
The idea of pita bread was pathetic that too wasnt enough in the pot … It just killed the effort the host made making keema and nihari … The vegetable rice were a total disaster and it was quite evident that the kababs were made out of those same rice … I hate saying all the negative stuff but it was honestly a big put off yesterday

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

We are invited to another party this saturday inshallah ... so lets see how that one goes :@:

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

menu wenu choroo mub menu bula loo iftar per :)

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

I usually combine the Iftar and the dinner items together.

Break the fast with

dates, nuts, dried fruit trays - I decorate them for Ramadan.
mango milkshake, rooh afza with milk or pomegranate juice

After prayer - open dinner

My standard desi Iftar menu is -

dahi baray or dahi pholki
pakora tray (3 types of pakoray)
chana chaat
fruit chaat
samosay or chicken patties
nihari
biryani or pulao or some rice dish

In the winter - I did a chinese menu Iftar with soups and that was very well received.

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

. double post

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

Njgal , that menu sounds good , do you keep Naan with nihari?

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

CB, what is rice kabab - I've never heard of it...

I'm planning a Iftar party on Saturday
So far my menu is

Iftar

Bread rolls filled with potatoes and chicken
Spring rolls
Puff pastry chicken patties
Pakaroy
Dahi Pakorian
Chana chaat
Roast chicken

Dinner

Plain rice with peas
Achar gosht

Desert

Pavlova with strawberry sauce

If I had time, I will do another dish for dinner maybe some beans or lentil

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

yes - you can do homemade naan - or a different twist is a naan basket with different type of naan cut in smaller pieces - I like to mix in regular, garlic, roghani, and afghani bread.

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

wow i just came across this thread after posting my another thread. I need help with iftar menu…please visit my thread :halo:

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

Sehrysh , that was just another disappointing stunt by the host ..

Basically she crushed the vegetable rice and mixed it in boiled potatos ... and made kabab like shapes .. then dipped it in egg and bread crumbs and deep fried it ...

I didnt like the taste much .

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

Ok I am ready to host an Iftar party inshallah in a few days time .. almost 7 adults and 7 children.
I am planning the menu as follows:

**Iftar:
**Dahi Ballay
Keema Patties
Chinese Pakoray
Usual Pakoray

**Dinner:
**Alooo Kabab
Chicken Biryani
Koftay
Chicken Karahi
Naan

**Dessert:
**Fruit Platter
Trifle

Now question is, should I serve the fruit platter with the Iftar menu? or is it ok to be served later in the Dessert round:konfused:
Also please can you guys suggest drinks that I can make easily to go with this menu. The iftar time is usually past 9:00pm so my target will be for the guests to have light iftar then namaz .. then dinner and keep space for dessert … you reckon I have got a good menu or will it be too heavy?

Re: Menu on Iftar dawats ..

With Iftar around 8:45 (EST) and very little time b/w Maghrib and Isha,

Khajoor, Roh Afza, Fruit chat and then dinner.....should be the order of the day
