Menstrual Pain

Do any of you girls/ladies have to go through it often? I have to. It’s really bad sometimes but sometimes it’s pretty much bearable and I try not to take any pain killers for it.
I read that there is no cure for it but the least you can try is to get rid of it for a while or lessen the pain. So docs suggested heating pads, crackers, coconut…and blah blah. It’s just irritating sometimes. When I used to work I had to get a half day off because of my pain. It’s really hard to work then. I mean, no one would wanna create a bad history at your work place you know. My amma’s friend told us to eat dry fruit and coconut while you’re in pain. It’s just weird, I’ve never tried anything but is there really a cure for it that’d work fast enough to atleast lessen the pain temporarily?

coconut?

runs to google

Patha nahi behna. The best thing I find is 2 pills of Advil. Pop those and lie down for a bit - turn on the TV. Put a pillow under your head, and one over your stomach and enjoy old re-runs. Comedy cures.

I hear chai is good - but that just gets the blood flowing. I dont know if it takes the pain away though. It doesn’t work for me in that sense.

And Pamprin - yeah…it doesn’t work.

Oh no, I also read that caffeine should be avoided during those days. No coffee or chaye or anything similar. Yeah advil works for me too and also ibuprofen. They're the same anyway.

hmm i always have chai if i get pain... and thats the only thing that gives me relief cus its nice and warm.. other than that, i use a hot water bottle.. it sort of numbs the pain to a degree..

i dont get pain that bad.. its bearable.. but there are days when u wish a rock would fall on u instead

I don't know I read that in a mag where doctors recommended to avoid caffeine when menstruating. Even I drink it sometimes because it's warm and it does give you that warm feeling when it reaches your stomach. I guess it's all psychological when you feel that it's healing but it actually is not.

i get severe pains.. have to take advil or tylenol or it just gets unbearable to the point where often i have fainted. it usually happens, in my case, if u r anemic. what does help me is hot water bottle. put it right above ur hips, right where ur spinal cord ends. trust me it does wonders! oh and take iron suplements regularly.

Actually I fainted twice in my life before. Now it does get bad sometimes but atleast now I don't feel like I'll faint as soon as I get up. i try to eat too although u don't feel like eating at all.

I know its an all-girl thread but here is a suggestion. Try to take advil/ibuprofin 24 to 48 hours before your menstruation begins and you will not have as severe symptoms. As far as knowing when the period begins, i dont know how you can do that. May be keep a diary or something.

Heating pads are the best, they just make your pain disappear in minutes! drinking a lot of water and a warm cup of milk also helps lessen the pain!

It is a problem for those who don't get the pain at all, then they have to keep track of the time. But for us who're dard ki maari huwi larkiyan, we don't have as such problems, coz little pain starts a day or two before menstruation begins.
Thanks though, I think I'll try that one.

Yeah, I read that too. I didn't know where to find them but I saw those at a drug store the other day, I think I'll buy them the next time.

Yeah try it. From what we have been taught the treatment of choice for painfull menstruation is Advil/Ibuprofin 24-48 hours before the mentruation begins. And the reason is that prostaglandins are what produce the pain and they are already there when the pain starts. So taking Advil at that time is useless. if you take it before then no prostaglandins will be made as advil blocks it and there will be less pain.
I hope it helps.

Isn’t there a pill out there that completely stops the cycle. I think I saw it on TV. :konfused:

I have passed out few times myself. There isn't a permenent cure for this but regular exercising and stretching helps a lot. You won't see a difference right away but after few months of regular workout or pilate stretches you will feel much more resistable towards the pain.

I find taking Evening Primrose oil supplements help alleviate period pains and also any other PMT type symptoms. The only drawback is that you have to take them all the time, and not just when you are menstruating.

I don't usually get a lot of pain, only occasionally.

I've heard eating bagels and breads will help alleviate pain. I don't know why. Also, doing stretches that they made us learn in health class in high school. :D

a warming bottle, kumbel and a kawwa helps :k:

get pregnant .. no more menstrual pain for 9 months :k:

i dont know why.. but V-8 has helped me out sooooooo god damn much!!! i would faint during my days.. but now its v-8 to teh rescue… i usualy try to drink throughout the yr… if not.. then definately a few days before the volcano erupts  … its helped me out a whole lot.. no pain… at all!

Sadia: then she’d be complaining bout swollen feet, morning sickness and not being able to tie her shoelaces

Take any medicine that blocks prostaglandins such has aspirin or Ibuprofen..Also avoid salty foods that may cause bloating,oh by the way, for some pople chocolate does wonder but for some it doesn't since its rich in sugar and caffeine, so try to figure out what works for you and what not.. I would stress on Exercise, it definitely helps to reduce pain both before and after period.

I dunno about the mechanism for this but I have heard that Vitamin E supplements improve PMS symptoms.... God knows how?!?
