Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

Not bathing during periods is an old wives tale!

As for fasting, praying during ramadan.. its a NO NO. you're na-paak so how can u pray?

If ur period starts after midday then you can keep your fast, it will not break and count as a complete one, however if your roza starts in the morning then your fast is considered broken.

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

^ if ur period starts even a minute before aftaar its NOT COUNTED and u have to make up for it later....

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

armughal, stop spreading the wrong info. Menstruation has nothing to do with breaking of fast.

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

^ yeah and wudoo has nothing to do with namaz....

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

taharat before salat is mentioned in the Quran. Tell me where is the restriction on fasting while menstruating. Sure, it is an allowance but not forbidden as you make it sound like that if a woman starts her period a minute before iftar, then it's not a fast.

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

ever heard of something called hadith????

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

Are there any hadith related by women on this issue? If so, maybe that could offer a legitimate reference.

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

nasty old desi tale :yukh:

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

things you are not supposed to do during your period (as heard in conversations between women in karachi, USA, majalises, darses, tea parties etc etc)

shower
cook or touch food
sit on leather
wash your private parts with cold water
wash hands or any part of the body with cold water
touch the quran, any written ayats, tasbeehs, jai-namaz(prayer mat)
enter masjid
visit graveyards
recite ayats/quran
eat chocolate, coffee, so-called garam foods

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

^ All of the above are baseless with the exception of physically touching the Qraunic ayats, reciting Quran from the mus'haf (there's a difference of opinion), and perhaps entering the area of the mosque where others pray (again there's a difference of opinion).

If memory serves me right, women shouldn't be visiting graveyards.

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

All along I thought if you start menstruating after having spent more than 1/2 or 3/4th of the day, your fast would still count and you wouldn’t have to make it up.

On the contrary, I found evidence supporting armughal’s claim: If her period begins before sunset, even if it is just a moment before, her fast is invalidated and she has to make it up

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

u r Not suppose to take bath during first couple of days of your Periods... i was told this by a doctor.....
even i noticed if i take bath in first couple of days of my cycle.. my 'flow' just kinda stops which is NOT healthy sign at all

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

NO, one isnt required/ isnt suppoz / isnt ALLOWED to fast during menses.

ur fast nullifies even if a single drop of blood trickels down ur body. now many smart arses wud think of not letting it flow and wud offer a sujjustion to wipe it off pamper before it actually trickels. in that case i cant say nothing but laugh my arse off !

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

What happens when you a woman gets streaks of brown disharge right before her periods ? Can she fast those days ? What is the ruling ?

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

Dive4U, figure out if it's part of menstruation or not. If it is, then you cannot pray/fast, if it isn't, then you can pray/fast.

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

someone told me that if you have already started your fast that you should complete it even if you started your menses in the middle...can anyone confirm this?

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

Angel Eyes, once you start menstruating, your fast is nullified and you have to make it up at a later date/time.

Re: Fasting and Periods?

I’ve been told, depending on the fiqh their recommendation is that if your period starts and it is after Asr/dhur you should finish up the fast b/c half or more of the day has gone by… I was told this by a friend who has a PhD in islamic studies…let me go check out another reference manual i have.

However, if you feel sick whatever the reason, you can always break your fast and make it up later…

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

question abt the cleasing bath
are we suppose to make make a neyat and face the kibla before we take the bath? or is it after we take the bath.
sorry, its just that my mom told me something else( u read qalma ), sis told me something else( face kibla) , ( make a wuzu) etc ..and in Quran it just says to take a shower …

Re: Menses and restrictions on women (merged)

You don't have to be facing qibla to perform ghusl.
