Men bosses vs Women bosses

Our team went through major restructuring. After 8 years of working for different women - I am directly reporting to a man and not liking it at all. :frowning:

Seems like he is just obsessed with him and his career and his goals and his objectives.

Need some tips of working for men - How to make a connection. He’s a fmaily man bur rarely talks about anything personal.

What works and what doesn’t. Please don’t let me talk sports (blah!)

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

I think men are easier bosses than women may be not better. They are straightforward and don't experience PMS (usually). I've had both and I found it way easier to work with a man. The relationship was very predictable and he wasn't in my face. Now with the lady boss, we did other things together like discuss life and butterflies at lunch but for some reason I expected her to be more understanding given that she was a woman like me, but she was more judgemental and often let her emotions be her guide.

So what do you talk about with a man, eh? About him of course, how brilliant he is, what a phenominal thought process he has and that you could learn so much from him. If he's married and has kids, bring that up once in a while. Once you break the ice, it'll be a piece of cake.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

Where is he from , need to know , as there are different techniques and tactics of handling a desi manager , which is way different from the art of handling Gora people ..

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

It is always easier to make a connection when you know what drives a person. You instantly have your topic set out for you.

If he is obsessed with his career, goals and objectives.....you have ample fodder. I would think that if he is your boss than at least a few of these goals and objectives will apply to you too, no?

Find out how you can contribute to his success. He'll be your best friend and your champion.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

Thanks guys!

All my previous women bosses were slave drivers too put more personable. They all didn't have kids. Most of them weren't even married. I do firmly believe to keep your personal life and business separate.

I guess I just have to break the ice somehow.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

I had one women boss at a temp position and I did not like it at all.

I like men bosses. They are damn cool.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

But I can’t talk shoes with him :cryb:

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

yes you can.....depends how you start......
and how far you intend to go.

I think male bosses are more easy going than their female counterparts. I find that female bosses are more cunning and more manipulative.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

:) Munza - gimme a few sentences to start the conversation ...

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

i prefer men bosses, had better experience. More easy going. Most female bosses are just catty.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

Female bosses that I have had are too difficult and catty! Male bosses are so much more laid back and fun to be with...straightforward and no BS.

With male bosses, you can talk about anything and everything...thats the fun part. With women you have to be careful. :)

Anyway, topics can cover anything from politics, family, food, etc. Trust me njgal, you will be fine. It seems like its a change for you and thats why you may be floundering a bit but once you get used to it, things will be fine. You sound personable and if you can get along with female bosses then male bosses will be a cinch!

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

^true!

lol - I don't know how life would be without the MEN BOSSES in my life. There is no catty nails coming at you. I feel safe. :)

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

Catty **is a good adjective to describe female bosses. Now, I know that NOT ALL female bosses are like that. But the ones that I've come into contact with were not only catty.....they were also TWO-FACED** back-stabbing cows. They also tend to have more mood swings than their male counter-parts.

Now i'm wondering if male employees think differently of male bosses. Do they find male bosses to be tougher than female bosses. Is it possible that male bosses are less tough on female employees.

Thanks PS - I think you are right. I think I have just gotten use to the "Miranda Priestly" (Devil wears Prada) bosses. Just need some time and adjustment.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

red: my hubby is more comfy with a male boss. At one point in time their company hired a female CEO after the male CEO quit for good.

She was wearing raunchy cleavage showing outfits and all the manager / director / hubby / his co-workers had difficult time to understand that she was going to bring anything to the table besides her cleavage and short skirt - :omg:

Casually in the lunch room or by the water cooler.....

You: "Hey...nice shoes."
Him: "Hmm? Oh...uh...thanks."
You: "They look Italian......."
Him: "really? I'm not sure actually. "
You, laughingly: "oh...sorry....I'm a little bit of a connoiseur......yes...shoe connoiseur.....and it's rare that you find someone just happen upon good taste in shoes. I suspect you are hiding something."

corny? depends on the delivery.
and even if you don't master the delivery......corny is good. you don't want to intimidate him.

I find that male bosses are usually much less threatened by smart/successful females and actually encourage success, strategic thinking, suggestions for change, etc. Many of the female bosses I had wanted to keep all the other women under their thumb and would undermine you if you did anything too well.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

I'm WONDERING WHY none of the MALES are posting here today? lol

I want to know their opinion too.

Re: Men bosses vs Women bosses

they are all being good at their jobs and being boring male bosses :)
