Mel Gibsons New Movie on Christ

What do you guys think about the protest by jews? They say after watching this movie, people would blame the Jews for what happened to Jesus Christ. This movie is about the crucifixtion.

Ok, no problem

Change the script a little bit, add a character with beard and pagri in shalwaar kameez. People are so smart they will guess themselve whom to blame :nahnah:

if possible post the STORY of the movie. and detail about the
controversy.

Based on what little knowledge I have, jews are to be blamed, anyway. It seems for once a movie has decided to be historically accurate, even if its politically inappropriate. Jews label any such thing as anti-semitic at a drop of a hat.

The interesting thing is that the rumors were that the Pope watched the whole movie and gave it a thumbs up. However, the Vatican spokesman refused to confirm it saying the pope does not express any opinion on artisitic works. Fine. The next day the Pope is seeing watching breakdancing and appreciating it and praying for the dancers. Seems like the Pope realized the movie is a hot potato, and so even though as a Christian he liked the movie and thought it was pretty accurate, the pope decided not to start a Judaio-Christian argument by blessing the movie. Quite telling.

Mel Gibson has been heard saying the phadda is about to start. He fully expects that the movie will create a rucus in jewish dominated press.

I didnt find the protesting to be a surprise. You just cant make a movie about religious figures these days without someone protesting.

Don't you mean "some Jews" Faisal?

I seriously doubt Mel Gibson's comment included the part about the press, that claim's really only heard in Islamic circles. He probably did say that it would cause a rucus w/jews though. It will cause an uproar because Jews are, in fact, very sensitive about the whole "killing Jesus" thing.

So, Stu you tell us. Were jews involved in the whole "killing Jesus thing"? If they were not, then they have a right to be angry at distortion of history. If they were, then why all the fuss?

After World War 2, in light of emerging evidence that the Catholic Church was aware of the Holocaust but did nothing to stop it, the Second Vatican Council was convened. Amongst other rulings, it changed the Vatican's (and hence Catholic Christianity's) official position on Jews, categorically absolving them of any responsibility for the alleged death (as Christians believe) of Hazrat Isa (pbuh).

Mel Gibson belongs, and has donated considerable amounts to, a group of Catholics, a sect even that rejects the teaching of the Second Vatican Council, and he has never kept this a secret. It is rumoured that many influential people in the Vatican today lean towards rejection of at least some of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council.

It may be that the controversy over this film may force a shift in Catholic beliefs back to the pre-Vatican II position on at least some, if not many issues.

Interesting enough, as a side note, theological views in the Anglican Church are beginning to turn against the Jews too. The so-called "Replacement Theory", which teaches that the Church, not Jews, are God's chosen people, is gaining increasing ground in this Protestant Church, much to the worry of some British Jews.

Oh they most definitely were involved. The reason for the fuss is they don't like to be reminded of that fact. Who likes to be reminded of past (bad) deeds?

Kind of how the Vatican apologised for the crusades last year (ir the year before, i can't remember)

Mel Gibson’s father was an anti-Semite, not sure where he stands now. Hopefully it's a good movie and there can be a sequel in 3D

Really? I know there are some people think Holocaust was justified, but to deny it ever happened.....? Interesting. Thanks.

Well... in any case, was Mel Gibson's father someone important, or is his only claim to fame is that he is Mel Gibson's father?

As far as I know just claim of fame through Mel. I've never heard anything about Mel Gibson being Anti-Semite, he seems bright enough to know better. The majority of his movies are fantastic, I wouldn't expect this one to be any different.

interesting .. denying (or questioning) that the holocaust happened makes one an anti-semite..

I really have a problem with people forcing their opinions down others throat and one way is to just label them something when they start asking questions..

why are Jews so touchy?? (sorry Stu can't use some here cuz i haven't seen many Jews against labelling people an anti-semite for just questioning a historical event)
