Mehndi...

Hi guys, okay so ive seen a really beautiful dress that I would like to wear for the mehndi. But its not you traditional green and yelow colours.

Its a beautiful combo of light brown and pink with some lace in there. Absolutely gorgeous!!! My question is will it look daft if I wear such a dress for my mehndi (bare in mind I havnt brought it yet but will do soon) or is it still all about the bright colours?

Also its got heavy embroidery around the neck part so I was thinking shall I just wear earings and a tikka for jewellary or should I also wear a small necklace? Soo confused lol.

Will post pics once I find em

Re: Mehndi...

I think these day not everyone wears yellow/green anymore, I've seen all sorts of colours. As long as you wear it well, it always looks nice. Plus if YOU like it, then that's the only important thing, don't worry about what what everyone thinks. I've seen off-white with light/apricot orange before at a mehndi, and it looked nice. I think if you match the colours of your dress to your mehndi decor, it'll look nice. Is your light brown more nudey? Maybe you could highlight the pink more, do different shades of pink in the decor?

Personally, for jewellery, I would go for simple. The heavy stuff is always worn on the wedding day, why overload on the mehndi? I've always thought the simple look is beautiful. But maybe go to the shops and look at jewellery sets and see what you like, if you want a necklace go for a small one? Will you be wearing flower jewllery?

Re: Mehndi...

each and every colour is in now a days if you like go for it. for jewlary I would say get some jhumkas and tika no need for necklace

Re: Mehndi...

You can always add or subtract color of your choice.. but as devilish said! everything is in these days! wear fresh flowers if you can. Also can go for some gota jewelry too! but old school jewelry is always a safer choice!

Re: Mehndi...

Yeah tbh I really likes it, was soo beautiful so I think ill go and get it. And not too sure about flower jewellary but ill see.

Think I may leave the necklace as it will become too much and instead have some nice earings and a tikka to go with.

Thanks guys, needed that little push to make my mind up lol.

Re: Mehndi...

i wre a pink and blue combination, hubby had a blue shalwar kameez...everybody loved it and this was 4 years ago. You should go for it!

Re: Mehndi...

I'm going to wear a very bright yellow dress. I have never worn one in tht shade before. No flower stuff, I dont like it.

Re: Mehndi…

I’m such a traditionalist when it comes to these things…I prefer yellow on mehndis, and unadorned simple brides. No heavy makeup (I was totally makeup free and under a ghoongat the entire time lol). I don’t care for the heavy, decked out mehndi look that rivals nikkahs/baraats and valimas.

I know I’m in the minority on this though :hinna: so I’ll
say go with whatever makes you feel pretty

Re: Mehndi…

I dont know abt the ghonghat thing :stuck_out_tongue: but def going for a makeup free look.

Re: Mehndi…

Yea, it’s definitely not the norm now lol! Remember, I got married back when dinosaurs were still roaming the Earth…Aunty jo hoon :rotfl:

Re: Mehndi...

I'm a sucker for that typical yellow color with gota and you throw in a pop of color with just flowers as your jewelry. But I have seen mehndi brides do different colors and it.looks nice. Make YOU happy.. it is your day.

Re: Mehndi…

Khatti: LOL.. u have to tell the aunty story some day where does it come from?? dont worry i am close to aunty age myself. when 13 yr call u aunty its bad or when parents tell their kids “give it to the woman” .. I AM A GIRL!!! :naak:

Re: Mehndi...

I prefer traditional mehndi colors but then that's just me. It doesn't mean that it has to be only green and yellow. I like orange, turquoise, parrot green, bright pink, purple - basically bright and happy colors. To me those colors are more mehndi-ish.

If you are hell bent on wearing this for your mehndi, then go for it. After all, its your day, you should wear what you will be most comfortable in.

Otherwise, you could also buy the outfit and have it as part of the outfits in your jehez. You will have lots of davats and functions to attend after the wedding right?

Also, I prefer the minimal make-up look. Just enough to give the bride a dewy glow and make her look natural without being completely make-up free. Pics come out better this way.

Re: Mehndi...

Yeah just dont go without makeup. Minimal foundation lil bit of compact. Semi nude lips and lotsa mascara! :p

Re: Mehndi...

Do what makes you happy! There aren't any rules to follow other than that. I had a sleeveless gold gharara with olive green, red and turquoise accents and I wore a face full of makeup with turquoise and gold eyes and red lips because my wedding day look was going to be totally different and more neutral. I also opted to go without dupatta on head. I got a ton of compliments because it was so ME, and not me made up to be "bridal", and I felt beautiful. That last bit is important :) Feel good about your look! It's your day!

Re: Mehndi…

I am part of that minority too. I got married 3 yes backs, however I went with a very simple mehndi look.

Re: Mehndi…

aww totally agree…i went for my wedding shopping few month before and ordered a traditional outfits in the mehndi colors…my mom stayed back for the rest of the wedding prep and when she got the outfit she thougth it wasn’t heavy enough and ordered another one in the blue n pink color combination. I didn’t see that outfit until the day of my mehndi :{

I had makeup done cuz of my poor skin:( the funny thing is the only day i didn’t have makeup was my mayuuon and once i was married and at my hubby’s house…his Nani was like you looked the worse on your Mayuuon… and really good other days. I just laughed in my head thinking …so i look horrible all natural

I personally thing a little kajal doesn’t look bad.

Re: Mehndi...

The natural look on mayoun is the traditional look and fine in those days because you wore a ghoonghut and was also part of the ritual of being unadorned from mayoun untill your wedding day. However, nowadays, a lot of people dont wear the long duppatta draped over their heads and there are pictures taken etc. When I got married I wanted to do the natural look too but my friends and cousins told me to wear very light make up so the difference between wedding day and mayoun is not too much. I did that and I think it looked good.

I like the idea someone mentioned above about keeping the other outfit for your jehaz. If you want to go contemporary with a traditional streak you can have non traditional colors with traditional accents like a green dupatta and flower jewelry. But again, its your wedding, if you want to wear the dress you liked on your mehndi, go ahead. people are wearing all kinds of colors nowadays.

Re: Mehndi...

You're going to be beautifulllll :) I say go for the ghoonghat, it'd be a great change!

Re: Mehndi...

Me and ghonghat? LMAO :p
