doesnt matter mehnaz..some pple cover their whole face and some pple dont..i personally like whenthe face is covered..but all depends on the dupatta material....something sheer or like net is better..
same goes with makeup..some pple dotn wear makeup, some do....
u dont have to do the mitthai thing..there are so many options:
- small pieces of fruit (watermelon, cantalopes (ball shaped), strawberries)...just put toothpicks on them
- chocolates..i prefer hershey's kisses
- timbits
all the yellows are so bright! im going with a duller gold type of yellow so i dont look sick. but that could just be me and my complexion
i’m also doing makeup- everyday work wear makup sure, but im putting it allll on- base, eyeshadow, eye liner, blush, lip color, doing my hair… i dont want to have horrible pictures. i don’t see the sense in that - i guess its to show contrast between then and the wedding?
veil… hrm, no. im gonna pass on that too.
the fruit idea is very good! and yummy!
and i loooooooove the decor- thats the good thing about being in pakistan- flowers are so inexpensive! here, something like that would run into hundreds of dollars im sure. i think we’re going to be creative with colorful saris and draping them as opposed to that many marigolds… i can only wish!
somegroovychick, we did that at my sister's mayoun/mendhi .... used lots of heavy and colourful dupattas and sarees as decoration. It turned out nice in the photos.
Also, check out Michael's. You can get very real looking flowers .... the kind that you can hang behind you as a background from the ceiling all the way down to the ground as decoration. All different types of yellow/orange flowers. They look good.
for my sister's mehndi, my mom bought all these solid colour dupatta of all colours...and she she sewed each one of them together and had tied them to a large pole (sort of like half a tent)...then as she walked down for her entrance, all us girls held an end of the duppattas and her best friend walked down with her holding the pole...when she finally was at the stage, the pole was place behind her and it was set out as her backdrop....it was gorgeous!
ooh, mehnaz and afshi, do you have pics? i'd love to see how you did it so i can visualise it better and also reproduce :p
afshi, do you mean like a chuppah? u know, the canopy jewish people get married under?
at my friend's wedding, four of her girlfriends were all carrying the dupatta over her head as she walked in, but instead of holding the corners in their hands, the four ends of dupatta were draped over/held up by four parasols- u know those chinese paper umbrellas? that looked really pretty too. and each girl on each corner was holding the handle of the parasol.
oh, and yeah, michaels... i'll have to check them out for sure.
i want to put lots of carpets on the floor, you know, like persian "looking" ones, and have them overlap and then have lots of pillows too, so people can relax.
i drew a pic on paint for you…lol…(this is how much spare time i have at work..hehe)…
i know its a crappy picture…but hey, i hope u understand what im saying…there are also pple behind the whole thing holding it from the back (i didnt draw them all in)
At weddings in Pakistan, the hall ppl usually do the decorations right?
Here I think alot of ppl do teh decorations tehmselves..but i’m not sure. We hired professonal decorators for all three days.. i thought the deco were very nice, esp since they were color-coordinated
dude, i wish i could afford pros in my budget! :p
we're probably having the mehendi in my friend's condo's party room. her condo is brand new so the party room has really nice decor as it is- we'd just have to make it mehendi-like.
afshi, you're hilarious! hahaha that pic is great. i get the picture!
Please tell me the one w. the duputta on her head is NOT the bride. SOCKS with SANDALS???
I’ve seen her pictures on here, i loved her mehndi jora, i thought it was absolutely beautiful. But she had absolutely no makeup on and that ruined the whole look IMO.

That can’t be the mehndi pic, that has to be nikaah or engagement or somethng.
