Mehndi dance - help!

Hi,

I've got my future sis-in-law's mehndi to attend soon. We are pretty clueless when it comes to dances and weddings in general.

As we go in with all our thalis, do we do a little dance when we put them down and then start the rasms. I've seen this before with the girls dancing in a circle but not sure if it's the done thing - I would much prefer not to dance at all.

The bride's family will expect us to do a dance at some stage - help - we can't dance v well!! Does anyone know any simple routines??? - there will be 3 of us?? I'm sure their side will have lots of and wonderful dances as they have a large family with lots of cousins. Although I don't want to be a party pooper and would def join in when everyone gets up and boogies, I also don't want to look like a fool and may skip the expected 'routine' dance!

Thanks for any advice! :)

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

Try looking on YouTube for mehndi dances for ideas. A lot of people post dances that they did on there. Also, don't assume that just because the bride has a lot of family they will have a lot of great dances. I, mA, have a HUGE family but no one from my side will be dancing at mine as no one wants to dance. So no need to give urself stage fright for no reason.

Thanks. I'm keen to know if we are supposed to do a dance on entry like I've seen some people do with the thalis/around the thalis.

Ta!

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

You could just do a parody of a qawalli or something, make it funny and get some girls to dress up as guys that way there's no dancing or embarrasment as you'll be seated.

Or you could do the 1st chorus and verse to mehndi hai rachni wali, or bumbro again do it seated so that your movements are through hands and expressions through face.

I've seen both done, and they've both been highly entertaining. More so than dozens of dances.

Or you could do a ludi with dandia sticks, again that's easy to compile and a little different.

I used to perform a lot of dances in college competitions and stuff years back, now that i haven’t it takes me SUPER long to form a dance in my head. However I will say this. Whenever I dance to Mujhe Saajan Ke Ghar from Lajja ppl’s heads turn and awe and they always say that was a fav.

The moves I kept were pretty much the same from the movie and sonali bendre does a great job and it’s easy to play, stop, learn the move and then press play to learn the next one or rewind as needed.

also I recommend taking a look at Rang De, movies wher ethe moves are totally there for you are just easy to work with. I’d go for that.

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

Ok, here are a few videos you can use for inspiration. If you list a few songs you feel like dancing to, I’ll hunt for the dances and post them. Look at the moves and pick up those that you find easy. If you have a group of girls/guys dancing, please atleast practice for a week or so to co-ordinate your moves.

Hope this helps you in some way.

  • Family & Friends singing along. This can be used if you can’t find anyone to do the dances in front of the guests:

  • Sajna Ve Sajna:

  • Nach Le:

  • Mehndi Dance on different songs:

  • Totally disturbing, un co-ordinated, out of sync dance. :frowning: So, please practice:

I’ll post more later.

Thanks so much for these - even I could do some of this! I can cope where there is more handwork than footwork!! Well we have a couple of weeks so I guess we'd better get practising!

Thanks again and in advance for any more :)

OMG!! What on earth was that!!! I wonder if they did realize how totally bizarre it all was and that was their intention!! Wow

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

  • Not perfectly co-ordinated but an interesting mehndi story dance and I really like it:

  • Different Songs esp. for the bride side:

  • Salaam-e-Ishq:

  • Barso re, Aaja nachle, Kaachi kaliyaan, Deewangi deewangi:

lmao that was utterly hilarious… you shud totally start off like that and make everyone think ur really bad and then burst into a fantastic routine… the dramatic improvement will make everyone think ur wonderful!

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

  • Woh Ajnabi:

  • Muja Hi Muja/Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - I really like the decor and atmosphere more than the dance:

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

^the second one doesn't even play, it keeps stopping.

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

shay, It is working now.

  • These enthusiastic girls have co-ordinated their moves and outfits. Quite Nice!

  • Barsoo Re, Aaaja Nach Le, Kacchi Kaliyan, Deewangi deewangi:

  • Shamma Shamma, Mauja hi mauja, You’re my love, Dil dance maare, Mast kalandar:

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

There's this show on satellite with Saroj Khan (NDTV)--she teaches 4 girl students how to do wedding songs step by step.......The steps are very well choreographed and the show it quite entertaining! That show will definitely help you. Its called Nachle Ve

If u google her--u will find the episodes......:)

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

these girls are on a freakin sugar high.

Re: Mehndi dance - help!

  • Nice selection of songs, a good dance, great resolution of the video but the odd angles and position of the camera ruins the effect:

  • This one must have required loads of practice:

BTW, you can watch or download all episodes of nachle ve from nachleve.blogspot.com .

Oh, my God! They must have done nothing but practice this for months for the final showdown!
