i just want to clarify my point. I am not making this a matter of religion. Frankly, I wouldnt care if it were Muslim country or any other country.
My opinion is that it's a waste of money that could used elsewhere in their country.

While I can understand the sin involved in "When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master", I cannot figure out whats wrong in constructing high rise buildings. The Hadeeth merely states this fact as an omen for the Judgement Day, it does not mention it as something sinful or something that arabs/bedouins should not do.

shepherds of black camels are already making world largest sky scrapers in Dubai.
now if you are talking about signs of qaymat and relating it to this (which is, no doubt True) then let me point one more .. and i would like to listen your reply on that.
One of the sign of qayamat states that mecca will be a developed city where pilgrimages have world level facilities at the time of hajj. (this is the maf'hoom - i don't remember it exactly).
Saudia government did all that development to provide their level best facilities for hajj .. .. but for pessimistic people they can relate it to this very omen

Those are not necessarily sins, they are just the signs of qiyamat.

Thank you Mirch, we really need to hear more comments like this.
I fail to understand why we don't appreciate some good effort made by our muslim brothers and sisters. When we talk about the only 7 star hotel in the world, we start dissing sheikhs and dubai .... when we talk about the multi-billion dollar international university, KAUST, we start dissing KSA and its King, instead of being proud of the fact that the middle east is advancing.... The Big Ben is an international tourist attraction, and now that KSA has built such a complex structure, we still won't appreciate it as an architectural masterpiece but instead we'd like to diss the saudis, the cost and what not ....
The Big Ben is an International Tourist Attraction located in London, and Makkah is not.
Makkah is a religious place and building such a monstrosity near the Kabah is the height of stupidity.
You don't see a massive skyscraper in the Vatican do you?
The Saudis tore down a mountain, destroyed a 200 year old Turkish fort to build this thing.

I feel proud when they show on National Geographic or Discovery channel , how in the Middle East those amazing new architectural marvels are being built and how they do it. This shows Muslims in whole new positive perspective. Like Muslims are not all about demolition , terror and suicide bombings. If they are let to live in peace they can achieve big and build big instead of destroying things.
Lets see....
The building was Designed by European/North American Firms, build by cheap South Asian Labor.
What is so Middle Eastern about this building except the fact its located in the middle east?
The Americans build the Empire State building, the Egyptians build the Pyramids, the Chinese build the Great Wall of China
And in the Middle East today, the Westerners designed the buildings, South Asians build it and Arabs sat and watched.
