Who introduced the ‘3 meals’ in a day concept ? Is it prevalent in all cultures around the world ? Why can’t we have 1 main meal in a day and be done with it ?

BTW, I'm reading a book 'Ahd e nabavi main Tamaddun'.. details are given in thread 'what are you reading' last page.. That book tells that during 6th / 7th century, Arabs they have one main meal in day. You would come across many ahadees, where Prophet and his family had water or just a date at the time of iftaar, as they had given the only available roti or food item to some poor person. So, I personally don't buy that people can;t be energetic just on one meal a day.
Apart form this, when we analysis ancient men who lived on hunting, it was not possible for them to have three meals a day. They might be having some fruits, etc in their vicinity, but having proper meals for three times at that time is beyond my understanding.
Re: Meals
I don't think the concept of the three meals a day (and their expected times) is prevalent in all cultures. I've noticed that in Afghanistan, people tend to eat several smaller meals throughout the day rather than 3 large meals. The timing for these meals also tends to differ from day to day and is not set as is the case with the 3 meals.
Re: Meals
cause you know a lot of people get hungry after the hard work :/
I know a lot of girls who eat a bread and are done for the day.

There are times I can do that and times when I can't.

Are the smaller meals proper meals or snacks ?

Back then food wasn't easily available. But what about people who were wealthy back then and had food available whenever they want. Did they eat 3 meals ?

^I think it might depend on what one is doing on a particular day. I would think that if someone is doing strenuous physical labour or is engaging in work that is quite stressful, they would be more likely to get hungry and eat at multiple times a day than someone who does not do such taxing work.
Re: Meals
Many eat less than 3 meals on there..and many eat more than that…so its really not limitted to 3 meals I guess.
Re: Meals
Depends on what you eat in that 1 meal I suppose ![]()

They are proper meals. Although the amounts are smaller, the meals usually consist of naan, meat (most commonly chicken or lamb/mutton), and a vegetable dish.

One can have snacks when one is hungry. Some fruit, nuts, carrots etc. A full-fledge meal isn't necessary for energy.

Interesting. So, does everyone eat when they feel hungry or every family has a time for the different meals according to what suits them ?
