McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

Charisma and star power

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

More like curiosity and soap opera factors.

Depends on which side you are on, and what lens you are applying. :-)

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

Looking at polls seems like McCain Palin is leading either by a small or large margin (4 to 15%) depending on which poll you look at.

He was trailing before Palin was announced. By announcing the day after Obama acceptance, it seems like the expected dnc bounce was neutralized!!!

Frankly speaking, seems to me that Hillary Clinton will vote for McCain. It would be easier to challenge McCain or Palin in 2012 than Obama.

Biden seems to have gone into a shell - hardly see him in the news.

And where is Michelle Obama - again the high profile she maintained pre-dnc is ended.

Democrats need a major push

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

Obama is in big trouble right now. Well, at least thats my personal opinion.

I am not sure what new thing he is going to bring to the table. Debates may sway a few votes here and there, but McCain-Palin seem to be getting stronger, while Obama-Biden are struggling to get momentum. Not to mention that Republicans are playing the Rove playbook perfectly, and everyday create a new controversy which constantly keeps Obama on the defensive and completely off-balance ("lipstick on a pig" is the latest example).

Re: polls, the thing to remember is that Obama loses votes behind the curtain. We had seen this repeatedly during the primaries too. People tell the pollster they'd vote for Obama, but once behind the curtain, many just can't vote for the blackguy. Obama has again and again performed poorly compared to what the pre-poll polling would suggest. Thats another thing that favors McCain and Republicans.

Main thing is the swing states. Ohio, Penn, Florida, Michigan. I just don't see how Obama can get to 271 electoral votes, if he can't appeal the blue collar, and if women desert him for Palin in significant numbers. Its a mess for the Obama machinery.

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

Anyone else checkout the Palin interview? What a train wreck. She answered questions in the form that beauty pageant contestants do.

At times visibly nervous, at others appearing to hew so closely to prepared answers that she used the exact same phrases repeatedly, Ms. Palin most visibly stumbled when she was asked by Mr. Gibson if she agreed with the Bush doctrine. Ms. Palin did not seem to know what he was talking about. Mr. Gibson, sounding like an impatient teacher, informed her that it meant the right of “anticipatory self-defense.”

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

I saw a 10 second snippet and within those 10 seconds she stumbled a lot and resorted to plastic phrases. I thought she was very unprepared.

Well I obviously have tainted lens on. With that drawl no one can stay on her side for too long. :D

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

Mainstream (so-called "liberal") media is now coming out in full force to bring down McCain. Yesterday's Charlie Gibson interview with Palin and today's McCain visit to "The View" are giving a lot of ammunation to the bloggers and journalists who are highlighting factual lies and cluelessness of both McCain and Palin.

Its difficult to defend any record if one has changed positions again and again. Palin "war from God" as well as "man has/hasn't affected climate change" comments are potentially more troubling and factual lies than her ignorance of "Bush Doctrine". Frankly the whole brouhaha over "Bush Doctrine" is overblown. You ask 4 people what their definition of "Bush Doctrine" is and they will give you four" different answers. This is not something that is defined by Bush in any of his speeches. Its a journalist-coined phrase and can be used for many things.

On the other hand McCain was manhandled (:)) today by the ladies of "The View" on his changing positions and his apparent contradictions between his current views from his own record and his running mate.

Polls still suggest Obama is struggling. Debates should stabilize some of these polls.

By the way, after Gibson's school master-like grilling of Palin, expect Sean Hannity to give her a gushy red carpet and proverbial softest of soft balls when he interviews her for Fox News next week. One the other hand, those who actually saw O'Reilly's interview of Obama would realize how bizarre and pompous Bill really is. He literally wouldn't allow Obama to complete any sentence and kept interjecting and objecting. I am sure even for an impartial, non-partisan independent it was a painful interview to watch. Compared to that Gibson was an epitome of politeness and courtesy.

Moral of the story: you don't have to act like a jackass to "gotcha" your interview-guest.

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

Palin's interview was quite bogus, there wasn't much substance in most of the stuff she said. No wonder McCain campain is keeping her away from press. She is just a good distraction to democrats and she is trying her best to make sure they get off the track, unfortunately to an extend she is sucessfull at it.

Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)

Palin's strength does not come from, what she knows, her experience, or her qualification. Her strength comes from god. With her, McCain just put put Jesus on the ticket, the only thing conservatives care about.
