Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
Forget the rest of the American voters. I'll give my personal perspective here.
[And advance apologies to utd and other serious political commentators. My comments are mostly irreverent since I don't actually vote]
Today with the choice of Sarah Palin, I am finally at ease with the US election prospects. No matter who wins, I am happy.
Before today, with Obama and McCain stastically tied in polls, I was worried why Obama isn't leading by double digits. McCain was giving me shivers. He is such a boring old dude. Come on.
Obama is a great speaker. He brings hope to the people. But he also brings inexperience in foreign policy and, yes, this is important, higher taxes for people like me. Plus he supports gay rights (tauba tauba) and all kinds of other socially liberal positions that I just can't personally reconcile with. So what if he claims he will pull out of Iraq in 16 months. We all know thats not gonna happen anyway, so no point in having an orgasm about it.
Compare that to McCain. He is literally in his grave. Uninspiring speaker. Has no consistent position on pretty much anything. Opposes the laws he himself wrote a few years ago. Political opportunist of the nth degree. How can anyone get excited about this 72 year old nut job is beyond me. His only redeeming grace is that he is not a liberal. Well, he is not a conservative either. He is just John McCain. A bored-out-of-my-mind-old-white-politician.
Enters Sarah Palin. A bonafide hottie. Sorry to be crass here, but lets be honest. In presidential politics she is as young as you can realistically imagine. 44. She looks fabulous. She will bring that same breath of fresh air to Presidential politics in the US as Sherry Rahman brings to boring old political scene in Pakistan. Well dressed. Classy. Easy on the eye.
And if McCain becomes President and then drops dead, not an unlikely scenario mind you, Sarah will take over as Leader of the Free World. All our dreams since Commander-in-Chief got cancelled at CBS will come true. Sarah Palin is actually better looking than Geena Davis. In my opinion, Sarah Palin takes away all my deepest worries about McCain at the most superficial level.
So where does that leave Obama. Yes, he can win. If he does, we get a great speaker in the White House. Hopefully he will be a good President too. I'll just have to change channels when Michele Obama comes on the screen. She scares me. His kids are really cute, though. By the way, Cindy McCain is also pretty good looking, in an old, elitist, quiet way. And especially considering her age. Not that looks should be a factor here, but we all know, first ladies just need to look pretty for state dinners.
So thank you John McCain. Thank you for picking Sarah. Now whoever wins I will be partying on November 5th. If I could vote, I'd vote for Sarah Palin ... and may be John McCain too.
