what a pathetic pick, really..
I disagree. Personally I don't think this is a pathetic pick at all. You and I disagree with her on policy issues, but what she is doing is something remarkable for the campaign. You have to understand that two weeks ago, McCain's campaign wasn't going anywhere. If he had picked Romney or Pawlenty or any other white dude, this race would be over in no time. With Palin in the mix, she fires up the base, which Republicans desperately need to do considering McCain's famous flip-flops over the years. Now, if she can energize the base and keep them fired up till November, and McCain appeals to independents and Democrats to switch over, they actually may have a close fight. The problem for Republicans is that people vote for the President not for the Veep. Also, McCain is perhaps the most boring candidate in the last 200 years.
With 8 yrs of Republican administration, poor economy, an unpopular war, an even more unpopular President ... who'd have thought that incumbant party could even make it a close fight. Now it appears, they will. This is what this pick has done. This is still an election for Democrats to lose. If McCain wins, it will be the ultimate humiliation for Obama and Democrats.
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
repubs always seem to have a much more powerful war machine when it comes to elections. inspite of obamas attempts to sex up his VP announcement with the text message announcement (the pick was leaked hours before the text messages went out) they couldnt generate a fraction of the buzz that mccain did with this pick.
democrats need to change the story and get the topic beyond palin. because the more shes in the news the more exciting she becomes as a choice. i predict colorado and ohio which were a few points dem will be a few points red a week from now.
^^besides this fact , i also think he’s too old means ( ok weak too & should stay out of this) he should be more wise and mature out of all when (1) it comes to convincing people abt his strategy to tackle issues where bush has failed miserably (2)and ofcoarse while addressing media or convention
true
oh..and i just came to know that mcCain’s wife adopted a daughter from bangladesh who was introduced to world just recently ,and acc to the family it was done to keep her privacy :halo:
^^ Exactly... and what was that drama by McCain refusing to give interviw to larry king?
I know!!! Just because their side couldn't answer what exactly Palin's qualifications were? Im sorry but I think I WANT to know who exactly will be running my country and who my tax money will be going to if buddha cain dies.

Please go back and reread what I wrote. I am not looking at her as being a pathetic pick for a campaign perspective, for a campaign she is excellent, get hillbillies, digruntled wymen, bible bangers, and all get excited. I am looking at her as a potential VP, and god forbid a potential President.
Now the question is whether democrats will have Hillary have a go at her, kansas governer has already thrwn a few punches. I think If Obama plays nice and offers Hillary something like secretary of state type of ting, she will come out swinging and you can see the pitbull get leashed.
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Senator Barack Obama will increasingly lean on prominent Democratic women to undercut Gov. Sarah Palin and Senator John McCain , dispatching Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to Florida on Monday and creating a rapid-response team to deploy female surrogates to battleground states, Obama advisers said on Thursday.
Mrs. Clinton’s campaign event in Florida, her first for Mr. Obama since the Democratic convention last month, will include a forceful response to the searing attacks and fresh burst of energy that Ms. Palin injected into the race with her convention speech on Wednesday night, Obama aides said.
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
I think there is where the difference between Obama and McCain very clear.
Obama picked Biden. A Senator from Delaware, a state that does not factor as a crucial swing state. Nor can Biden be pitched as a fresh face who is a Change candidate for this campaign. Infact, being a complete Washington insider, Biden dilutes some of Obama's message. However, it is obvious that picking Biden, Obama was looking more towards his Presidency, and that he needs someone who can help him govern.
On the other hand, by picking a very inexperienced PTA/Mayor/2 yr governor of a state with 600,000 people, McCain is showing that he is not interested in getting someone who will help him in his Presidency, but rather someone who can help him win the eleciton, by appealing to the republican base of right-wing conservatives and some Hillary supporters and women voters.
So in making his VP pick, McCain is only looking at the next 60 days, whereas Obama is looking at the next 8 years. Tells you a lot about each candidate.
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
The whole point of McCain Palin tkt is that they are NOT the republicans that caused the failures of the Bush administration. The maveric duo offers as proof their record of having taken on their party in the past.
To republicans this gives an excellent face saver by which the failures are tucked away to Bush and restores credibility to the party.
To independents and vascilating democrats this tkt offers a broad range of group affiliations that Obama Biden cannot counter, namely:
all caucasian, more american
woman
war hero, veteran
supported surge
supported lieberman
best friend of israel
not Obama
McCain has done a pretty smart thing with Palin but for which he had very little chance.
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
I don't like obama - he is too smooth. Too much talk and too little accomplished. Biden is ok but he is only VP, so has started salaaming Obama as a full time profession.
McCain is a real hero and while I don't agree with all his stands in the past, seems to be the best of the lot
getting shot down multiple times shows he was a bad pilot than a good hero
I mean being a POW makes one a hero? I think showing leadership, and delivering some strategic results makes one a hero.
as john stewart stated in the daily show if being a pow makes one a hero then gitmo is not a jail but a leadership training academy
I mean lets just compare three recent presidential candidates in terms of heroics. kerry or wesley clark vs mccain, really. Mccain is a hero compared to those guarding texas airspace during vietnam maybe that is the standard he is being compared againt.
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
The only dem capable of beating a McCain Pali tkt (not counting Bill Clinton) is Gore. Gore would make a great prez, so will Kerry but the dems fell for sound bites.
Now republicans the quality tkt.
Palin pick has even brought the doubting radio shows and evangelists back to the polls and that's no small achievement
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
Comparing terrorists in Gitmo to POWs is incorrect.
McCain is a hero because he chose to reject the early release p.r stunt, chose to enter public service again and was one of the handful that openly condemned torture of captives at gitmo/abu ghraib.

hey man, tell it to John Stewart
he meant it as a joke and I quoted him as a joke :)
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
^ Joke it may be, but the basic point remains. Voters should be looking at the leadership experience of candidates and not their POW experience. POW experience does talk about the character of a person and all that other good stuff. However, McCain will hardly be an agent of change, if thats what people are looking for. My bigger problem with Republicans is that they are running these elections as if they have not been in power for the last 8 years. With an out-of-control deficit, unpopular & illogical war and a badly tarnished image around the world, someone gotta take responsibility here.
I am not a fan of big government, wasteful spending, large bureacracies and welfare state kinda policies. The only reason to support Dems would be their better record for civil rights and kinda laissez faire attitude towards social issues. Plus, with 8 years of Bush, no one can do worse in terms of messing up the budget.
Re: McCain picks Alaska Gov. Palin as VP (a female)
Palin seems to be drawing crowds, and offers something that McCain lacked thus far. Just what exactly is that something that she has and McCain lacked...i'm not quite sure yet.
