Maxi Dresses

Why oh why can I not find a nice maxi dress that can be halalified..

Ok, I admit the shopping centre nearest my workplace (I expect Hareem can vouch for this) isn’t the most progressive but trips

to Miss S
Asos (online)
New Look
Debenhams
TK Maxx
H&M
Primark

and I can’t find anything :frowning:

Anyone got any ideas? I am not a fan of huge bold patterns and would like a simple, almost floral maxi without the ruffles..

Please help !

I haven’t seen anything much about.

Re: Maxi Dresses

Also, have you thought about chiffon jackets/cardigans? I think most places have them, definitely saw some in miss selfridge.

I guess it depends on how non-see through you want to you, whether you can just wear the chiffon on top of a sleeveless maxi or if you need to wear a long sleeve top too.

Re: Maxi Dresses

I've never had any problem with making any maxi dresses 'halal'.....either wear a thin long sleeve top underneath or something over the top like a cropped cardigan/shrug/denim jacket. If the neckline is too deep then use a skinny scarf.

You will be hard pushed to find a maxi dress that won't need styling to make it suitable for wearing though as they do all tend to be strapless, short sleeved and/or have deep necklines.

Re: Maxi Dresses

what I see my friends do in Japan is that they wear a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt with the dress and perhaps leggings too if its a bit see through?
you can also wear jackets/cardigans on top of it at least thats what I do.

and lol "halalify" it sounds weird you can just say dressing modestly.

Re: Maxi Dresses

Its hard to find one with sleeves really..i really wanted one with sleeves :frowning:

here is what i bought and this is how i intend to wear it with a black cardigan also …except the heels

Re: Maxi Dresses

I have 2-3 full sleeve maxis - they are around just need some hunting.

OR

Maxi skirt + full sleeve top is equally lovely and summery!

Re: Maxi Dresses

went there today and saw some nice maxi dresses in Monsoon and they were on sale too.

Also in Debenhams Casual Collection have some nice ones (don't know if you've seen them). There were nice matching cardis too.

Re: Maxi Dresses

It's funny, I find dresses with full sleeves quite ugly...but find nothign wrong with wearing a thin full/half sleeved top underneath...

Re: Maxi Dresses

I think blazers can look really smart, and they come in any colour these days too. But since it's warm, cardigans will suffice. I'm loving maxi skirts atm, too.

Re: Maxi Dresses

Yeah, the dresses with full sleeves are usually really ugly, it’s the more slutty looking dresses which always look prettier

Personally I tend to wear a cardi over it or maybe a nice jacket, plus I tend to cover up the neckline with my scarf (I’ve seen non-hijabis wear a scarf around their neck sometimes too)

Err…where to look. I’ve found some of mine in really random places, you just gotta keep an eye out sometimes. There’s a few that I’ve LOVED that I’ve seen online, but they’re either too expensive or not available (or both, in the case of this pretty dress which I wanted :()

Sometimes I find dresses (maxi or otherwise) in random places like Camden Market or Asos or some online place. Just keep an eye out really!

Re: Maxi Dresses

^ That is very pretty!

Re: Maxi Dresses

I was at Old Navy looking for cheap maternity tops, and I ended up buying this dress.

I got the one in pink and orange…i just wear a thin cardi over it.

Re: Maxi Dresses

Does anyone find that maxi dresses don’t flatter their figures? I want to wear them so badly but I get mixed opinions (some say it looks nice, others say it looks bad on me)… :hinna:

Re: Maxi Dresses

^ I started off thinking they'd make me look terribly fat and weird... but I think it depends on the pattern/style of the dress you choose. Simple colors/patterns make my body look more long and lean (I'm short and chubby).

Re: Maxi Dresses

Personally I think that maxi dresses do look better on taller people. Having said that, I find it annoying being too tall for a lot of high street maxi dresses as they're a bit too short for me so I have to buy mine from Long Tall Sally usually.

Re: Maxi Dresses

and I’m so short that all the dresses drag. :hinna:

Re: Maxi Dresses

You like the princess of iran (okay not iran but you get the point ...)

Re: Maxi Dresses

I'm 5'2" and I think they look fine on me (so does everyone else). If anything, they make me look taller. I usually have to take them up though.

Re: Maxi Dresses

Minis can defo wear maxis, just need to wear the right type. I dont like the ones with sleeves so a cardi/jacket is fine for me.
