Well I know many Deobandis are part of it and people often link it with other Deobandis groups … The founder himself is not really traditional (like a Salafi precursor) in that sense but from what I have seen and I may be mistaken that they are probably Hanafi with Salafi like tendencies but to call them Wahabis is not exactly right either. But since they are political we may both be right … and they might invite people with similar political motives - they are more associated to the Ikhwani groups than the Wahabi groups … back in the middle east which is why I don’t really feel they resemble the Wahabis.

The higher command as such does not follow any school of thought. But Jamaat e Islami as a political party has its doors open for every one.
