There is major problem with religious groups taking political or pseudo political stances … I associate and support the Deobandi-Hanafi movement in matters of fiqh and I believe they have amongst the most learned scholars in the Hanafi groups worldwide … However, some of the not so educated ones are dabbling with politics … Jamat-i-Islami may have many Deobandis but it is wrong to assume that Jamat-i-Islami is the same as all the Deobandis.

I agree with the Maududi Junior Sahib that JI are thugs … but that is about the only thing I guess I would agree with him about, in the absence of knowing anything else about him … he should be protected from thuggery and he should be given compensation for his mental torture … JI should disband or restructure to have pragmatists non-scholars in the politics - and seek out the best Deobandi scholars for advice. They need to adopt some Tablighis to soften them up - or take on one of the traditional tariqahs …

As far as his father is concerned I accept many things but not all things and consider his non-traditional background led to the deficiency in the manner he spoke and commented … often making things too basic and drawing too many parallels with average joes like me … I would like to think that Prophet (SAW), Sahabah, Tab’een up to this level are much better than average people and we don’t get that sort of impression from the Maulana’s writings …

As far as I know Jamaat e Islami is Wahhabi, not deobandi.
