Re: Materazzi finally tells....
he deserved more than a head butt, a kick in the ding dongs should have followed. this trash talking thing has to just go..
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
yah and zidane deserves a bullet in his head
fool brought personal issues ahead of his purpose on football field.
like swearing in sports is an unusal thing.
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
one wrong does not justify another wrong, i agree.
if swearing in sports is not unusual then well, sportsmanship and sportsman behavior need to be be defined differently now.
loutish behavior in any sport is not cool. I thought soccer players were better then the ghetto bred basketball goons in trash taslking but the matarazzi and others like him show that soccer is not free from such stuff. what a shame.
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
Trash talking is a common place in every sport, Soccer included. Zidane has always had a problem dealing with such elemantary school trash talking. The head-butt acheived nothing and Marco Materazzi probably went home laughing that night.
Re: Materazzi finally tells…
…hey wht zidanne did was wht any bro is supposed to do…
sportsmanship can stay for other things…not when someone is talkin abt his sister(or family)…then it reaches to a NO- TOLERANCE limit…
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
so matarazzi went home laughing..
France woukd have lost with or without Zidane, it woud have gone to penalty kicks and the rest of the french team was just not there that day..
it does bring forward the ugliness of some teams and that such trash talking is not something that should be tolerated..kinda shows how much of a liar matarazzi is also dunn it. he would forever be an avg player and his clam to fame being headbutted by one of teh sports greatest :)
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
Lol lets be honest...there would have been trash talking from both sides just as there are in any sports...zidane being the fool that he was let it get to him and ruined things for France...
Dont single out materazzi...he said something...this happens in football...zidane is at fault for reacting...
The headbutt will be in folklore though...
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
i dont think he ruined things for france, unless france was banking on him to win the cup for them again, the way the rest of the team played that day, they deserved to lose. french team did not lose because of zidane being sent off..they were going to lose with or without him
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
I agree that France would have lost anyway...
It just pisses me off how Zidane was hailed a hero for doing what he did when infact he displayed lack of thought and childishenss...
Its the same with Rooney and punching Michael Gray...Gray was portrayed as the bad guy which is fine but at no point were Waynes actions heroic and knightlike like the papers display...
Losing your cool is not clever especially in a world cup final in your final game...
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
he was not hailed as a hero for dpong what he did, but he was hailed as a hero for an illustrious career overall.

Fifa plea to Zidane and Materazzi
Fifa president Sepp Blatter wants Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi to meet to reconcile their differences after the World Cup final bust-up.
France's Zidane headbutted Italy defender Materazzi in the chest near the end of extra-time, with Italy going on to win the trophy on penalties.
"We are working on getting together Materazzi and Zidane to bring an end to this story," said Blatter.
"They could go to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was in prison."
Mandela, South Africa president from 1994 until 1999, was sentenced to life in prison on Robben Island in 1964 and remained there for 18 years.
Blatter added: "It is a pity, I have to say, when a World Cup final ends with a red card."
Zidane, playing his last game before retiring from football, was sent off for the attack and later claimed he was provoked after Materazzi had insulted his mother.
But Materazzi revealed that Zidane's sister was the subject: "I was tugging his shirt, he said to me 'if you want my shirt so much I'll give it to you afterwards,' and I answered that I'd prefer his sister."
Materazzi was later handed a two-match ban by world governing body Fifa, while Zidane was banned for three games and fined £3,260.

You can't say for sure that they would have lost either way. You have to believe that such an incident was capable of taking the wind out of lungs for every French player. Either way, I'm not saying France lost because of Zidane. But you can't be sure that it made no difference either.
And there is a heck of a lot of trash talking going on in every sport. Am I supporter of trash talking? No. But its so common that to react this way everytime someone taunts you would turn the soccer pitch into a battlefield. And we know how much the odds will be stacked against France if that happens :D
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
and yiu cant say for sure that they would have won. the team was just not clicking that day, and unless we assume that Zidane would have gone on his own to save the day, we have to believe that the odds were against them based on what I saw on the pitch...fast fwd to penalty shootouts, how many did france miss again?
There is a lot of trash talking in every sport....sure, there should not be. So while we may condemn Zidane's reaction, we have to condemn Matarazi's taunts, and we have to condemn FIFA letting this problem grow.
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
hindsight is 20/20
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
Zidane overreacted ... he cost France the world cup ... that's the bottom line, no use defending him.
Re: Materazzi finally tells…
What Zidane did is his business. The guy’s mother was in the hospital and so yes he was sensitive about his family.
There is no evidence this his actions cost France the cup; maybe his presence on this pitch might’ve lead to a lead by Italy. No one know or can predict how things turn around.
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
well his action might have cost france the world cup because they had to play down to 10 men in the last 10 mins and i dont think the guy who missed the penalty trezequet would've been in the line up ,it would've been zidane in his place.I think it was a stupid and selfish thing done by Zidanet..he put himself ahead of his team in a world cup final,if it was some club game being played then zidane was justified in doing that, but not in the world cup final.Players abuse eachother all the time in football and it happens in cricket too,its alright to react if the game is not important, but here it was too important.
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
^
After Zidane made materrzi his concubine on the pitch, future materrzis better think twice. World Cups are so over-rated. Who cares who won in 1968 or '82. Human drama trumps all titles and trophies.
There is only one world cup winner who won it by a single head butt, his name is Zidane. And, materzzi is Zidane's concubine.
Re: Materazzi finally tells....
irrespective of Zidane's presence, Trezeguet would have taken a spotkick. He also takes them as number two for Juve behind Del Piero
