‘No visa for Narendra Modi’

IANS

AHMEDABAD: While Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s supporters in the US have invited him for a world Gujarati conference in August, activists have urged Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice not to grant him a visa given the allegations of rights violations against him.

In a petition, 25 organisations of non-resident Indians under an umbrella group, Coalition Against Genocide, have told Rice: “It has come to our attention that Narendra Modi is once again planning to apply for a visa to enter the US.”

“We urge the State Department not to allow Modi to enter the country under any conditions, as the circumstances under which he was denied a visa in 2005 remain largely unchanged, and the** minority communities in his state continue to face systematic human rights violations.”**

Modi was denied a visa to visit the US after he was accused of turning a blind eye to the communal violence in Gujarat in which at least 1,169 people, a majority of them Muslims, were killed, according to the official figures.

The letter dated July 1 states: “The US should not unwittingly be the platform from which these unrepentant and yet ascendant forces in India exploit the opportunity to rally the support base among Indian diaspora communities and raise international legitimacy and standing.”

Pointing out that “not only was Modi responsible for the deaths of over 2,000 Muslims and the displacement of 200,000 more, but six years after the Gujarat-state sponsored violence”, it says: “The Muslim community in Gujarat is subjected to a devastating economic and social boycott, institutionalized at every level.”

Modi, along with a number of prominent Gujarati leaders, has been invited to attend the three-day second world Gujarati conference, called Chaalo Gujarat, organised by the Association of Indian Americans of North America (AIANA) and to be held in Edison in late August.

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

And this man is loved by Indians!!?

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

^ Narendra Modi was the CM of Gujarat when the local Hindu fanatics attacked the innocent Muslim civilians in 2002. There was wide spread killings of Muslims..... almost to a genoicidal proportion. This guy is a hardline hardcore extremist who was denied a US visa before. I hope US authorities should be sensible enough not to let him enter this time either.

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

^We will have to see what happens in next few weeks.

he was denied US visa because

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

Its nice to see that there are intelligent people like deedawar and Saad_UAE who have all praises for US policies.
(Or it is a temporary adjustment?)

And deedawar and Saad_UAE I have no knowledge of history. Can you explain why riots against Muslims took place in Gujarat? Any idea?

yeah.
its one F-ed up place.

I guess you need to get used of this niceness.

Trying to find the excuses for killing innocent people?

Did you also praise Modi for his crimes?

He is the butcher of Gujrat!!

Oh yes please do explain why the riots took place. I suppose it was also the fault of Christian missionaries that they got burned alive with thier children, and every dalit who gets lit is also asking for it as were the sikhs...they were all at fault for their own suffering right anjjan?

The fire was started when the hindus were cooking food on the train.

Even your own biased official report said the same thing.

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

So deedawar ** and **mufakkar cannot enlighten me why riots in Gujarat took place against Muslims?

Since begening many eye-witnesses have said that a Muslim mob had surrounded the burning boggy and was pelting stones at the boggy and passengers, and was shouting pro-Islamiv, anti-Hindu slogans. Even some Muslim media had printed the same (by mistake) in the begining..

One can argue who was responsible for fire....but what that Muslim mob was doing there? May be pelring stones is your way to help people?

Fire by cooking....Gujaratys usually carry dry food when they travel and do not cook at such an early hour.

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

^Yes…

See this.

The UPA government inquiries into the incident concluded that the fire which burned the carriage was the result of a cooking-fire accident inside the carriage itself, and was not the result of the mob attack. [1]](Godhra train burning - Wikipedia) The BBC further adds that:
“Retired Supreme Court judge Umesh Chandra Banerjee, who is leading the government inquiry, dismissed suggestions that inflammable liquid could have been thrown at the train from outside.”
However, these finding have been rejected by BJP politicians in Gujarat.

The topic was not to open a trial again however.

This man is guilty and has been declared as a criminal..but he is re-elected…by Indians..the hindu extremists/terrorists.

That should not change the fact that he is responsible for the killing of innocent people.

You do good job in derailing threads :k:

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

Anjjan dum dabba kay bhaag gaya. He will probably think up a new tangent and be back....

An Indian-American woman named Nishrin Hussain actually lead the campaign to have the US State Department revoke his visa on the grounds that he was “responsible for or directly carried out, at any time, particularly severe violations of religious freedom.” Her father, Ahsan Jafri, was a former MP who was hacked to pieces and burnt alive along with about 70 other people who were hiding in his house during the riots.

The Indian Foreign Ministry has already repeatedly requested that the State Department reconsider it’s decision…and on further review, the State Department has refused to do so. I don’t think that’s going to change any time soon. It’s really just a slap on the wrist considering the fact that the US Commission on International Religious Freedom officially requested the State Department to blacklist India with “Country of Particular Concern” status (and was rebuffed by Bush)…but I suppose any official international recognition of the shocking level of government involvement in the Gujarat atrocities is something.

Re: Mass murderer from India Planning visit to U.S.?

^ unfortunately this is true. While N.Modi and his followers don't really care about US visa etc, I think Indian government should either work harder to clear the black mark or punish him - I mean he is either guilty or not guilty - for a person at a high position, it should be resolved fully.

Islamic media is very smart and punctual in picking up whatever is in its favor.

The Banerji Commission was a political setup and has lost grounds once the last Bihar elections were over. No one in India, even the Congress Govt and the Communist Parties has taken its reports seriously. Its mentor Lalu Yadav has forgotten about it.

And my question is….. What the Muslim mob was doing there when boggy was under fire?

///\Any one who has doubt about it can dig into the net, pick up the very first news articles, and can easily find that even the Islamic press had printed the same…that a Muslim mob had surrounded the burning bogy ….but later it was totally omitted, neglected and forgotten…off course was not in favor of Muslims clergy.

I will be very happy if anyone claims that the Muslim mob was there to help the victims!

Which Court has proved that he is guilty?

Now they will say that Indian Court is biased, exept the Benerji Commission and America is a very good nation, because Modi is not given a Visa.

You managed to write a long post with no relation to the topic itself. Keep asking questions to make it look like a controvertial issue..............in reality its not!

We are NOT discussing his trial at this moment. I am sure it was debated to death somewhere if not everywhere.

The man has not changed a bit.

He had been denied entry to US before.

He WAS found guilty and nothing he has done to change his image.

So why should he be granted the visa this time..is the question.

[And BTW its nothing to do with islamic media................people like you choose words carefully according to the bandwagon and/or stereotyped mentality..and it shows in your first sentence.]

Thanks for the info and sharing the sad but touching story.
