Maqta is last shair of a ghazal, which disconnects (qata’ karna) the silsila e kalaam.
There has been a tradition in classic Urdu poetry, where almost all poets used their ‘takallus’ in their ghazals. be it Ghalib, Meer, Sauda, Zafar… all used their takhallus… In new poets Faiz saheb, Ahmed Faraz, Qateel Shifai used takhallus in poetry…
Some famous poets like Parveen Shakir and Amjad Islam Amjad rarely used takhallus… Amjad Islam Amjad’s ghazals may contain his name Amjad… but Parveen didn’t have any takhallus probably and I think there only one shair (that I read and don’t remember) where maqta contained Parveen.
So in this thread lets share some popular maqta from Urdu poetry.
I start with this one by Qateel Shifai
Duniya Main Qateel Us sa Munafiq Nahi Koi
Jo Zulm To Sehta hai Baghawat Nahi Karta.
I have a feeling that Ghalib and Ahmed Faraz are the most popular poets with popular maqta in Urdu poetry. Lets see, if this perception is changed after this thread.
Here is one of my favorite by Faiz:
Maqam, Faiz, Koi Raah Mein Jacha Hi Nahi J
o Koo-e-Yaar Se Niklay To Soo-e-Daar Chaly
sometimes, taKhallus was used in the matl'a of the Ghazal. one such she'r is from AsGhar GonDvii:

**** Khuda jaane kahaaN hai "AsGhar"-e-Deevaana barsoN se
**
*k jisko DhooNDhte haiN Ka'ba-o-butKhaana barsoN se

yes in rare cases... there are more than one ashaar in a ghazal containing name of poet.. Ahmed Faraz's famous ghazal 'Zindagi se yehi gila hai mujhe' got two maqtaas:
Koh kan ho ke, Qais ho ke Faraz
sab main ik shakhs hi mila hai mujhe
second one is:
KON JANE KE CHAHTON MEIN FARAZ
KIYA GANWAYA HAI KIYA MILA HAI MUJHE
There is Pakistani poet Adeem Hashmi (whose ghazal Kat hi gai Judai bhi is popular). He wrote a ghazal and each shair contain his name.
tum taqalluf ko bhii iKhalaas samajhate ho 'Faraz'
dost hotaa nahin har haath milaanevaalaa
I think this one is most popular line from Faraz's kalam and people who don't have much interest in poetry might have heard / read this shair any where

did you get a chance to visit Ghalib's grave. I heard that this ghazal ;dil hi to hi na sang o khisht' is written either on his grave or walls
nope, i did NO visit his grave though i passed by his grave site on numerous occasions. it reminds me of an incident that happened when 'allamah Iqbal was on a morning walk with Hasan Nizami ?] and they happen to be close to Ghalib's grave site...the dialogues between them that took place were something like this:

'allamah Iqbal: achchhaa vohii Ghalib jinko 'jannat kii Haqeeqat' ma'loom thii? ab unke liye kia faatiHa paRhnii soodmand hogii?
