Bohot …

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

I use mortar and pestle everyday and it does make a huge difference!

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

I use it for elaichi in tea and some chutney's that are better slightly 'chunky' .

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

Simple Manual is always going to seem better to humans becuase Automatic is just not natural...

Besides which do you think has lasted longer... as soon as the bijlee goes it is back to manual labour.... consider in 3000 AD we might have supertechnology or we might slump into dark ages again. Either way there will still be a Manual work in the kitchen.... unless food can cook itself. :)

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

good out of the box thinking. i never thought that way.
i always thought the masala tastes better after peesing because it is fresh and retains its aroma.

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

me neithEr.. we use the coffee grinder! I used the traditional thing in Karachi but then my mom visited and bought a coffee grinder for me.. she couldn’t stand me peesing n peesing n peesing.. I love the world of coffee grinder

Honestly if someone has time for mortar and pestle, great but I don’t think it fair to assume that only that food tastes better!!!

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

mortar and pestle is a lot of work heck I think even coffee grinder is hard ... shan masalas FTW

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

My grandma would grind the masala on sil bata. I thought that was too much work. Its a huge piece of rock with smooth surface and you use a smaller rock piece to grind masala on it. It used to take her a day to make baingan. Her food tasted really good.

Now here, I use coffee grinder.

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

Coffee grinder all the way!!! For masalas at least, for garlic and ginger we use a mortar and pestle.

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

I tried the mortar and pestle at a friends place .. and the masala’s just kept popping out of the mortar :naraz: … specially the whole dhaniya ..

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

Pardon my ignorance, but what masalas do you guys have to pees and that too pees so very often …??
I have no mortar and pestle…ammi had it and made us do the pees-ing sometimes and I never liked it because everything just kept on flying out of it.
I have a coffee grinder and the only things I have ever pees-ed in it are zeera seeds and green cardamom…and that too not very often…
:hmmm:

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

^I use it to make fresh ginger garlic paste, for crushing cardamoms for tea, other whole spices.....whenever I have something to crush/make a paste in a small quantity I use it. I have a coffee grinder too but you really need a lot more quantity of something to use it!

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

BTW, you have to pound slowly to prevent the stuff from flying out…:hehe:

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

funny story... i was once introduced to a rhista guy who used the stone motor and pestle to peesafy all his masalay from ilaichi, ginger garlic to mint. :D

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

:hehe:
and he had that on his ‘rishta resume’…??

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

haha no but he bragged about it alot and therefore infront of him i pretended i cant even boil an egg :D

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

Sil batta! I think its unhealthy to do "peesing" on it. That traditional man/women coming to your street "sil batta kut walo"!

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

hahaha...yes, i remember in my childhood in my village these guys used to come around calling "sil abTTaa Thukwaa loooo" and i was the one to carry that heavy sil [silauTii] to outside the house...it was heavy hehe...

...maze kii baat yeh hai k vo log jinke chehroN pe daaGh hote [chechak, smallpox] ke to unko log kahte chiRhaane ke liye "abe o silpaT, idhar aa!" [sil = silauTii; paT = face]...it was MEAN! :(**

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

LOL ! :hehe:
and you let that rishta slide? if the guy used mortar and pestle so much he must be so ‘gharelu’…That’s a BIG plus don’t you think, lusiiii???

Re: masala peesing and peesing and peesing !

Wrap the mortar with cling-film and punch a hole with the ‘bata’ keeps everything inside
