Mary Kay Letourneau

Well, I’m on a ball tonite. First it was watching women dance in a very provocative way - toba toba - and now this Larry King Show.

He’s interviewing this woman - she had intercourse with a kid in her class - I think he was what 16 or something when she slept with him? I dont remember those details - she got jailed for raping him as she was 30 herself.

Discuss.

Is she in the wrong or right? Mind you - the boy is sexually mature and is producing sperm a’ plenty.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

By the way, the keep interviewing her - anyone seen the boy get interviewed??

I'd like to see what he has to say. He certainly didn't go to jail.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

I used to wish my chemistry teacher would do something like that to me when I was in 10th grade.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

yeah i know who ur talking about. hte kid was actually 12-13 years old, and she had two children with him. now she plans on marrying him. oh and at the time, she herself was married and had several children…wat the poor family must be going through…

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

Wasn't this story in the news a few months ago? Or is this a newer story?

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

I think she was in her process of divorce at the time. Even, then, it was still wrong...but I question the idea of a 30 year old female being with a 13 year old male as being wrong.

If they're both sexually mature - why is society imposing its own man-made rules on the couple? Why is it considered rape when the boy was the one coming on to her (if you've seen other interviews of this woman)...and why is society shielding the boy - I'd like to see him grilled on Larry King.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

That boy is going to be THE man in high school.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

Mary Kay was the boy's 6th grade teacher. When she started having sex with her student, she was also married with 4 children. So her student was about 12 years old when she started her affair with him. She got pregnant and she got caught and sent to jail where she had his baby - a girl. The boy's mother was given the baby. She got out after a couple of years and immediately went back to her boy-lover, got pregnant once again and sent to jail once again. Had another girl in jail. This was around 6 years ago. Its back in the news now because her boy-lover is now "legal", he turned 18 and they are getting married. She never sees her first 4 children, she gave them up to her husband.

Sad. Sick. Imagine being the first 4 kids having such a famous mother. Imagine being the next set of kids, born in jail with a famous mother.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

If it were the other way round, a 30 year old man having an affair with a willing 12 year old girl, there would be much more of an uproar.

Mary Kay is completely in the wrong. He was a child at the time!!

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

Most of the opinions expressed here are from single women who’ve never had a child (or even been close to having one). I am curious how’d a mother feel that her underage son is ‘getting it on’ with his teacher.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

Good sane response.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

I have 3 boys....all I can say is that if a female child molester got her hands on any of my boys, I'd make sure she was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law....then I'd move us all to another country, no forwarding address.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

But Mama of 3, my point was that this kid was sexually mature and he made a choice himself. In the reports, he acknowledges as well as this woman, that he came onto her first during some counseling or tutoring session after class.

If he had banged a fellow 12 year old, there probably wouldn't have been as much of an uproar. 12 vs. 30 - what is the big deal?

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

Yeah it's only a biological need right? I mean she got sick of eating a Muffin everyday so she wanted a bagel with cream cheese.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

PCG, even though this kid was mature enough to produce an offspring, I think 12 is much too young to engage in this kind of thing....no matter what the age of the partner in crime.

Yes, there would have been less of an uproar if the kid did it with another 12 year old, it would have seemed like kids playing doctor. Its the 30 year old teacher that made it so much worse. The 12 yr old boy "came on" to her??? Well she is his teacher, the one who is supposed to teach and guide him. Dont you think 12 is too young? That is a child.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

HYPOCRISY AT ITS BEST!!

a 30 year old female forces her student to have sex with her and its supposed to be ok but reverse the genders now and u have a scandal at hand.. PcG will probably be the first one to call for castration of the 30 yr old guy! think about it, u cannot compare a 15 yr old guy having sex with a 12 yr old girl with him having sex with a 30 yr old female… for starters, in the first case, both dont know the seriousness of what they are doing.. u cud prosecute neither for any crime as both are underage and hence the only thing would be to send them to a correction facility.. but a 30 yr old female certainly knows what she is doing and what the consequences are..

its true that the kid might have had sexual feelings on his own too but from his viewpoint its a biological process he hasnt understood it yet.. so for him sex is probably something like learning to ride a bike or something.. but the female fully well knew that she was doing a wrong thing.. the kid needs to grow up like any other.. its as bad as a 12 yr old girl getting raped by an older guy.. but some want to avoid thinking of this case from the same angle.. for them its more like kinky sex.. why is rape restricted only to women as victims??? probably equality needs to be extended in all spheres of life.. tat will put an end to the sick “all men are pigs” tirade that some love to indulge in.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

I was watching a news show about this 27 y/o hot teacher who’s being prosecuted for sleeping with a 13 y/o boy. According to the prosecutor, psychological trauma caused by such affairs results in depression and lack of self-esteem in these boys (among other things). Now socially young men are programmed (mostly by men) to revel in such affairs but there are serious psychological health risks associated with such behaviors.

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

injustice....

had they followed proper Islamic rules (which is unheard of even in Islamic countries), both boy and lady would have had hundred lashes....

unless ofcourse the kid had not been an adult....
then it was the woman alone who'd face the penalty....

and yes, there is defnitely nothing RIGHT in adultery....
its wrong no matter how u look at it....

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

I think the reason for the restrictions is that just because one is sexually mature does not mean that one is emotionally and mentally mature -- and sex involves more than the mechanics of putting things in the right place.

Of course, I agree that there's no guarrantee that people are mature by 18. The age is somewhat arbitrary.

I honestly worry more about her and her emotional stability, than his. There's a big difference between a 12 year old boy and a 30 year old woman. What kind of companionship did she need?

Re: Mary Kay Letourneau

sahar - Nice post. Iwonder about her emotional stability, too, but the difference is she made the decision as an adult and he as a child. Her emotional stability shouldn't matter.

I never undertsood why people always equate rape and sex. They are not the same.

No matter what you say, when you look at a child (12) you don't think, "wow, gotta have some". Whether a 12 yr old girl or a boy. He wasn't lucky, she was a predator.

Rape is a power play, an assertion of power over another, it has nothing to do with sex. Having sex with a child (what these underage people were) is rape. period. Nothing else. It doesn't matter if the victim is a boy or a girl.

Of course, he may have wanted to get lucky, but she was an adult and as a teacher, in a position of power over that child, was NOT in the postion to grant that particular wish of his. Anyone in a positon of power (teacher, parent, therapist, doctor, etc) over another individual should not take advantage of others, if they do, rules and laws should be in place (as they were here).

Now - here goes...........

Sheik Sahab - It is ok for a kid to have fantasies and dream this would happen to them, but there is a BIG difference between dealing with the emotions of fastasy and the emotions of an ADULT relationship being foisted apon you by a person in a position of power (such as the reprecussions of acting as an adult in a sexual situation - having kids, STD's, etc.).

Mo3 - I am curious about just one thing. Why on earth would you pack and move to another country? Child abusers are everywhere, regardless of country, age, religion, and gender. Would it be because of the "shame"?

Desibanda - Surprisingly in full agreement with you for a change. :)

Another thing this kid has is two children before the age of eighteen. Do you think he was emotionally ready for that? Having kids involves more than, "Hey, man, looky what I did..".

She deserved every bit of time she got. Not only that, I believe she got off easy because of the way people look at a crime like this.
