Actor and activist Martin Sheen, who portrays a fictional U.S. president on the television drama “The West Wing,” said when he crosses from the United States to Canada he feels like he’s left “the land of the lunatics.”
Sheen said he was “proud” of Canada for not entering the Iraq war. The American actor has been outspoken in his opposition to the U.S.-led war.
“Every time I cross this border I feel like I’ve left the land of lunatics,” Sheen said Saturday in Windsor, Ontario, where he was receiving an award as a Christian role model.
“You are not armed and dangerous. You do not shoot each other,” Sheen said. “I always feel a bit more human when I come here.”
Sheen, who plays fictional Democratic President Josiah Bartlet on the TV show, was receiving the Christian Culture Gold Medal from Assumption University. The university will offer a new scholarship in his name.
Nadia, dont be so excited, Sheen is the same guy who has influenced the storyline of the West Wing, which has numerous times portrayed Pakistan as a terrorist nation.
Since this time hes commented on the US, whens the apology coming in?? Didnt take long for Depp
Are you referring to “Beverly Hills 90210”? Then let me enlighten you. That show was highly influenced by “Degrassi High” which was a Canadian show from the 80’s. So much for your copy theory. In fact Degrassi High influenced many American shows of that genre which dealt with teenagers (real teenagers, not 30 year olds acting as 17 year olds), rape, sex, drugs, etc, etc.

Im talking about the Canadian version of Beverly Hills, which no one thought about watching. Now please dont compare those Canadian shows with American shows, its another no-contest, like most other things.

You got it wrong again. Beverly Hills is the American version of "Degrassi High". Don't try so hard to be American ;)
Atleast the americans were smart enough to change the name, and make it a hit show, the poor canadians just copy it and add their country’s name to the show, which is the sole reason why the show fails
So first it was influenced, now its copied, you sure do know how to contradict yourself…
Copying => When you come up with a canadian version of beverly hills
I could name tonnes of other shows… Being a big fan of the hit series airwolf, I was disgusted when Canada started the series and flushed it down the drain.
Frettie, living in denial seems easy for you... Degrassi and Beverly Hills were two different shows... Beverly Hills invented the idea of a show revolving around teens, and their problems. Now if you take this, put a 'canadian' label before that and change the cast, thats copying my boy.
ah Spock beTay, i knew you would reply in this thread
Acha guys, let’s not turn this into a fighting session. No one should be jaylus that Canada is generally considered a more civilized country; afterall there’s nothing to be jealous about the fact that when American tourists go abroad, they routinely say they are Canadian (so as not to be targeted by others for their government’s sheer ignorance).
On a more serious, less biased note, Martin Sheen has been arrested over 30 times for protesting against his own government - mostly in connection with the Latin terrorist training org., ‘School of the Americas’, based in the US. Sheen should be applauded by his fellow American citizens… his words may hurt, but he is afterall exercising his freedom of expression - a freedom that, according to senor Bush, the US is trying to implement for Iraqis and Afghans. So applaud him for his courage even if you disagree with his beliefs.
Oh, and Ive seen the show American Idol being copied in South Africa and England, but they were wise enough to modify the theme and change the names completely. Now Canada came up with a 'Canadian Idol', isnt that copying?

Ahh, the wannabe American in you is showing once again. ;) It was Degrassi Junior High which invented a show revolving around teens ( real teens) and their problems with drugs, sex, rape, and violence. Degrassi was out way before Beverly Hills, which is clearly influenced by Degrassi. Deal with it :)
