Chances of using it as self defense are very rare... I mean I assume you live in a nice safe neighborhood and all...
What it will teach you is disciple, and coordination. I enrolled for it back in school, and dont regret it at all. I do remember hurting my foot whilst trying to crack my first tile though. I dont see how your face would start looking manly but yeah your feet/hands might get roughed up quite a bit especially in the first few attempts.
nai, it doesnt really happen like that
have you tried it?

So after the 1st few attempts will it be back to normal?
Tae Kwon Do is more a kicking art so it's not really benefical in most street fights unless your very good at it... and that would require years of training from an early age for your body to develope correct form and timing.
As Spock said i agree it isn't likely to affect you face unless you take constant face shots...
And hands and feet will change into more rougher types becuase of exposure to constant beating... early on this will be very painfull but it can be managed and after about three months you wont feel so bad.
However Tae Kwon Do does benefit you if your of a lighter build and kicking will keep most ammature attackers at bay and allow you to get away... should the fight not go your way.
As a combat art it isn't quite up to par with the more close quarter fighting techniques but as a striking art its good... very good.
See what you think if it's the one for you stick with it otherwise move on theres loads of other martial arts you can do which might suit different body types... also variety is good for an all round fight game.
ofcourse they will get rough as you are trying to make them strong …but if u’ll stop practice then they will be again soft but if you will continue they will remain rough

what kind or martial art would suit girls?
[/QUOTE]
Depends entirely on the girl.
technically girls can do all the boys arts but in practice it's not really the case becuase girls have naturally different bone structure and different body type and shapes...
For example it's easy to find a heavywieght boxer of 15stone wieght in mans class... few women boxers will reach that size though.
Also likewise many women can deliver head kicks easily and confidently with a lot of power... few men can kick to the head and even if they could reach that far they would lack power without practice.
Personally the simple fighting arts like boxing are very good although they lack the flashy moves an boxer will almost always beat a kickboxer.
Don't worry about that. See all those pretty athlete girls in olympic?
any type of athletic would make your body better tuned and balanced.
Which will make you look prettier.
^ heard much about it but's is an Isreali rip off of Ju Jitsu and it's not a proven winner against other martial arts only against non experienced opponents.
Boxing, wrestling, horse riding and shooting could also be labbelled as martial arts for they can fall into the same banner. Media coverage tends to swing towards Japanese arts but every kaum and nation has it's own martial art and some have many more.

This your right on Sarge bhai Kung Fu means hard work.
And in China there are many thousands of styles of fighting which fall under Kung Fu but these are styles and forms which are diverse and not all are martial arts.

[Afro-Brazilian] Capoeira

Lahore Ka cheetah Sahib that is an excellent example of a martial art which is not mainstream but nonetheless very effective when mastered properly.
Personally no one style beats all... every style works but none is supreme.
It's down to the individual to find what works best...
