I dun think so but for confirmation u hv 2 ask the guppies who hv seen me in person
It makes ur body very flexible and it teaches you Discipline and respect for others and it also gives you self confidence.
As far as the time it takes is concerned it depends on till what level you want to learn and how much u can train in a specific period. It took me 3 years and one broken toe to go from white belt to 3rd Dan Black Belt. After that I got lazy because to move forward in Black Belt Degree/Dan u hv to win the biannual championship competition
It was performed in this way so that colonials would not notice it was a martial art In the Philipines they have simmilar fighting arts and in Asia theres Gatka which looks more like a dance as well.
Well it depends if u want ur body to be rough and have a manly look than u should work out push ups to build ur chest use dumbells for biceps and do some crunches to get abs and for the martial arts technique JKD ftw
Firstly take on all the points Faris Udeen is telling he’s spot on.
It’s not true that martial arts or a certain martial art can give you a rough manly look. It all depends on what you want, if you want to be as hard as nails and want to be 100% sure that if you were to fight you’d win then you have to put yourself through certain things. I had to show I could break my fall outside on concrete in order to grade.
If you want to do something for fitness and want something that’s gentle I’d look at Tai Chi.
If you’re interested in that sports aspect then Taekwondo and Judo are probably the best.
The benefits are fitness, discipline and the ability to protect yourself. As far as how long it takes to learn it depends what your goals are I’ve seen a white belt defeat people with higher grades, for some people it’s when they get up to a certain level of fitness.
Lol no, your hands don't become rough and calloused. You're not working as a carpenter or something. Besides, when you break wood, you're doing it with the side of your hand, or a fist. When you first start to do it, your hands may become rougher, but once you get used to it (and if you properly moisturize), then you'll be fine.
A manly look on your face? Hmm, not sure what you mean. When you engage in physical exercise of any type, there is always a strain on your body, and your facial expressions will reflect it. The only way to prevent that is to go to the spa every day, become a dull person, and feel no emotion. :-/
Concerning how long it takes to learn it, what is your goal? How much time are you willing to devote to it? Are you simply interested in physical exercise, or are you looking to become a black belt and spar in tournaments?
Using it for self defense, like another has said, is rare. It's very stylized, and very much dependent on leg movement (which I liked, as my legs are built for strength). I spent years doing Tae Kwon Do, and took my black belt exam in front of the former head of the organization (he passed away). Most of what you would do is very stylized, you learn new forms for every belt, which is basically a type of fighting dance. The one nice thing I experienced, after my first tournament, my teacher brought in policemen to teach a group of us their self defense techniques. I think the two together, were very beneficial.
I learned to fight as many styles and weapons systems as i could get hold of.
I have a working knowledge of sixty of the worlds most popular small arms... and i can fire anything from a 1870's modified long barreled revolver.... to a modern AC 50 calibre rifle.
As well as firearms i could handle more weapons systems and close qaurter arms and armour than anyone on this site could name.
And all of them i could effectively wield, throw, plant and shoot without a second thought.
But at the end of the day theres one bold fact....
Without my brain and body no weapon i know would be useable.
