Ok…so what are people’s thoughts on this?
I have friends who have married cousins and mash’allah have very happy relationships with them
However, I also have friends for whom the spouse being a relative has caused upteen marital problems from the word go
If you had a choice between marrying a relative or a non-relative…which would you be most likely to veer toward?

Marrying your cousin? No…I find that extremely sick..its like marrying your brother/sister. I mean how could you love someone after marriage like a husband and wife? Its incest?
What about medical problems? Do people not think about that?
I am married to someone outside the family and that’s what I would want for my children Inshallah..

^I'm sure parents are aware that type of feeling so more often than not they would not think of marrying off to someone who you have grown up with and have that brother/sister type of relationship, and you've forgotten about distant cousins, and medical problems only arise if this goes on generation after generation. And that "extremely sick" is sure to offend guppies who are married to their cousins.
Personally I would marry a distant cousin, not anyone that I've known for awhile.

The Prophet (SAW) married his cousin Zainab (RA) (plz correct me if im wrong)....he also married his daughter Fatima (RA) off to a cousin (i think it was his cousin?) as well. So before saying its disgusting you should keep this in mind!!
My personal view on this matter (as discussed previously on similar threads).....I wouldnt marry my cousin simply because it can cause many problems w/in the family...it can break a family apart.
Also...i would like to explore different cultures, customs, and/or traditions. I think this broadens your horizons a bit.

If you would have asked me 2 years ago this question i would have said to stay away from family but the truth is...
When you fall in love family or non family does not matter.. Its all about you getting along with the person.
a tip for girls out there if you want to know what guy is really like meet his mother ;)... most guys tend to catch things that their mothers has taught them..[so far this philosophy of mine is working]
A positive thing in family is.. if something happens adults in family can help kids to sort things out.
Most of the time out of family end up becoming enemies if things dont work out their kids.
