Nothing really in normal situations. But each situation is different.

If the 18-year old herself says she doesn't want to get married at that time in her life and if she says she wants to finish her education first and she wants to get to know the male who her family has chosen for her better so she can decide for herself if she really likes him enough to marry him, then it's wrong to still impose that marriage upon that 18-year old.

Or any-year old in such situations for that matter. Not the consent of the families of the bride and groom is important, the consent of the bride and groom themselves is really important since they are supposed to spend their lives together after marriage.

But we've gone very off-topic now. Let's go back to the topic of this thread.

Why not? I've met a few 18-year-olds who are more mature and ready for the responsibilities that come with marriage than some 40 year olds I know.

to be honest i would not just because of the age difference, but i know enough ppl who got married at 18 and are happily married.

Just bcause the bride is 18, why is everyone assuming that the groom is like, ancient? My role-model is my SIL who married at 16 and is the best wife and mother I've ever seen. Her hubby is not too much older than her.

I agree with Mamof3 - it depends on the individual - some people are very mature and would be fine if married at that age.

I am very mature for my age and would probably have coped fine with being married young, but alas my parents wanted to me focus on my studies, and here I am soon to be qualified and inshallah ready for marriage :)

yeah i knew a few 18 year olds 2 were quit pathetic and one was nice and mature... It does just depend on the individual really

Why not?? AH im one of those very mature for their age person who had a nikkah at 16

and rukhsati at 18, and am MA very happy with hubby and my 2 baby boys. :)

Everybody is differrent some are mature enough to get married young
and some still aren't mature enough even at the age of 40!
