Re: Marriage
All of them in a way.
Spiritual - definitely, it's a Sunnah of Rasulullah SAW + there are so many benefits of being in a halal marriage. Alhamdulillah
Strictly religious - not sure about strict, but religious, yes. Marriage is called "half of our deen."
Contract - to an extent; there are rules that both of them have to follow, though they might not necessarily appear too obvious.
Re: Marriage
all of the above...

Re: Marriage
something personal between two individuals
Re: Marriage
Well..for me the main reason is so that I can have a baby without ppl looking down their noses at my parents.
It would be personal and my choice, no one made the decision for me- nothing to do with religion or social contracts for me.

Re: Marriage
Peace philosophy
By creating a false dichotomy of religious vs social for marriage ... you should not be surprised that people are answering "all of it" ... you are only saying it is 'boring' because it has totally destroyed your intended argument ... Isn't it? :) kidding
No really ...
Marriage is personal in certain contexts, social/civil in others, religious in other contexts ... it depends on the viewpoint ... but each viewpoint is equally valid.
Re: Marriage
psyah. the all-knower, with a god-complex has revealed my true intentions.
so enlighten me, what was my intended argument?
unlike you, i never shove my personal opinions down people’s throats. i created no false dichotomy. It’s an open-ended question.

Re: Marriage
Peace philosophy
If anything I fear Allah (SWT) never to equate anything to Him, So Mighty is He above all things. He is my witness that everything I say … I say not to claim in any way what Authority He has … but rather to rightfully place all Power, Grace and Beauty to Him which results from His Mercy.
For sure all Good that comes from me is due to Him and any bad that comes from me is a result of my own short comings. For a surety this sinful soul has far more shortcomings than good, but I do try … Never do I claim to be God rather I am amongst the most ardent defenders of Tawhid … which is that There is no Power Except with Him … He is God Alone Most Unique … Rather I say that those people who deny God His Right over us, who decide for themselves without consulting the Legislated law of God are the ones who are taking for themselves Rights that belong to God … not I …
My comment to you philosophy was one made in jest … ![]()
But I did give a serious answer as well … you asked the opinion of people how marriage was considered by them … then you call them boring and say uff … can’t be … I say if you ask someone of their opinion then their answer is personal to them … but the debate you really want to have (correct me if I am wrong) is whether our “consideration as marriage being a spiritual thing” is misplaced … and in reality it is not a spiritual/religious thing at all. Am I correct? If not .. then forgive me for my inefficiency … but I truly think that you are going to contest the validity of the idea that marriage is a spiritual/religious matter. I am not God so I could not possibly know for sure … however, I can take a good a guess, based on certain clues in your previous discourse.

In any civilized society the institution of marriage offers a legal permit to have intimate relationship which might result in the extension of legitimate biological relationship, though breaking apart in many societies.
So you may call it anything yet the truth is that it strangles the animal instinct, libido, with the chains of a contract (social, religious, etc) acceptable to most of the societies
