Re: Marriage Stories

My wedding took 7 years too, but not that dramatic!

HIs family and my family were family friends so whenever we went to Pak we would meet them. I was 14, he was 19 when his mum first asked for my rishta, but of course my mum said no as i definately wasn't old enough. He had flirted with me when i was 14 and i thought i was in love with him then, he gave me a pen as a gift, and it's the only thing that i have from 14 years ago and have never lost it!

Fast forward 6 years, and his Dad saw me at a mutual friends wedding and asked me to talk to him. He was overseas at the time and i hadn't seen him for 6 years. We started talking, and talking and talking. First we hid it from our parents, then we stopped hiding it and let our parents talk too. My mum took the phone charger out of her room and put it in my room too. At this point, the parents were like you guys are talking too much, just get married. So we both said yes!

My aunty went to Pak for some business, and my in-laws met her and gave lots of things for shagun. When i got it, my parents hosted a party for the whole Pak community in our city, so i had a party with my engagement clothes, jewellery and shoes but no fiance! This was in March 2006 and then got married iwth no tension or drama in December 2006. But i hadn't seen him for 7 years, and only saw him after our Nikkah. He was a bit shocked, i had been shorter than him at 14, but now i was same height as him, so he thought he got ripped off as he said to his Dad that he wasn't comfortable with a wife taller than him, and thought that his Dad had betrayed him, as i was wearing heels, but i am a couple inches shorter.

Also i thought i was betrayed too, he always had thick curly hair, but when we got home and he took off his kulla, he was bald and had lost a lot of hair. But we did and still do have a good laugh about our "betrayals"!
