Please share your marriage stories in this thread…we will love to hear.
I’ll start with mine.
I’m married to my cousin but we had never met before (just once or twice when we were very young)…so meeting him on his brother’s wedding in Lahore was like seeing him for the first time in my life. I think I liked him because he was so daring unlike other boys who liked me but didn’t have the guts to express it. He couldn’t speak Urdu properly but love need no language.
So I was new in Lahore as I’ve spent my childhood in Rawalpindi’s rural area. His bro’s wedding was fun, all the cousins were staying at his parents’ place. He took me out for food and shopping few times and one day bought me a ring…I was scared of committing but I wore the ring to make everyone else happy. Because my mother had passed away when I was around 13, my sisters really pressurized me into marrying him, they wanted me to marry him when I was 16.
I was staying with my bro and bhabi and it was pretty difficult living with bhabi and her relatives. My father passed away when I turned 17 and the life became even more difficult so one day I just decided to get married. I called him and told him that I want to get married, he didn’t have a job then but he said okay. So just before I turned 19 we got married.
I’m not married yet, but I’ll share Baji’s story. Maybe that will motivate her to post more :D.
She met her husband at an Islamic convention(ICNA) back in the late 1990s. ICNA was in Pittsburgh, and my dad at that time was the president of the Pittsburgh Muslim association. And my BIL’s father was also heavily involved in ICNA, so they were all invited to our home for lunch. So my sister and BIL first met in our old home on the back porch . Who knew they would be married 10 years later . Anyway from that day on, they both had a crush on each other, dated for about 7 years. In 2008 she told my dad about him, and he remembered meeting this family back then, and things just fell into place and AH they got married. mA’ 4 years later they have a beautiful baby, which everyone knows I can’t stop talking about
One fine day , my mother informed me that she has found a girl for me - and I have two choices - either marry her or leave this country for a decade again!
