Many killed in Lahore in an attack on Ahmadi Masjid

re: Many killed in Lahore in an attack on Ahmadi Masjid

I am an Ahmadi
I am an Ahmadi. There are four million of me in Pakistan. This Islamic Republic is the only state in the world which has officially declared me to to be a non-Muslim. Why? It’s simple. I am an Ahmadi.
Ordinances have been passed against me. Acts and Constitutional Amendments have been drafted around me. Shortly after the heart and soul of our nation was ripped into two, a country reeling to define and defend its own identity unleashed itself upon me. In 1974, a parliament I had voted for adopted a law that outlawed me.
The rest of you were given a different story. Unlike you, I was not a “a person who believes in the finality of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH”. But nobody really asked me what I believed in. Why? Because I am different. Because I don’t matter. Because I am an Ahmadi.
A powerful man who killed another powerful man in the name of the law did worse to me. In 1984, the General of an Army I support, pay for and even serve under passed another law: now I could not call myself a Muslim at all, or even “pose as Muslim”.
You might have noted the affects of that yesterday. As my attackers unleashed their wrath, television networks I watch and love got the location of the bloodshed all wrong. What I call a mosque, they insisted on calling a “place of worship”. That’s alright though. It’s not their fault. I’m used to the special treatment. After all, I am an Ahmadi.
But I wish things were different. I wish I was like you. I wish I was a Sunni, a Shia, a Punjabi, a Pakhtoon, a Baloch, a Sindhi, a Memon, a Gujrati, a Siraiki, a Makrani. If I was any of those, or even anyone else, I would have been called a martyr or “shaheed” in the papers today. My family would have liked that. They would have even written it on my grave, like you do for your loved ones. But all that doesn’t matter. It’s what comes after the grave that really matters. And in my case, I’ve been reassured by you that not much good awaits me there.
But you can’t blame me for wishing. I wish I could give you a hug this Eid. I wish I could say “Asalamalaikum” and “Eid Mubarak” to you as well. I wish I could read to you the history of my people and even have you sample my food. But I can’t. That could cost me three years of prison time.
Finally, I also wish my attackers had chosen another date. For you, yesterday was a day to remember. After all, it was twelve years ago that you unleashed your might upon the world by reducing a mountain to ashes. You had invented the weapon to counter all weapons. You detractors were scared, your enemies terrified. For causing yesterday’s incident to dampen your re-living that moment of pride, I apologize. Please accept my condolences.
But you don’t have to. You’ve got other things to do. Why waste your time with me? After all, I am an Ahmadi.
(Disclaimer: Khan is not an Ahmadi, rather a Pakistani, and proud one at that)

We all are very sad and condemning this brutal act but this was attack on a Pakistani community and all other communities are facing this since long. Please don't try to talk about differences. This is not a proper time for that.

re: Many killed in Lahore in an attack on Ahmadi Masjid

Dude I know how you feel, its tough living in a country where everyone and the law hates you. Ahmadis are humans after all. And Ahmadis have contributed alot to Pakistan as well, Abdus Salam a brilliant scientist and the only Pakistani to win a nobel prize was a Muslim (Ahmadi). A massacre where close to 100 people died.

Very touching, i feel for u. Every pakistanis should be ashamed of this. Not to derail this thread, but can u tell me what is the size of ur community in north-america(us, canada)?. Are there any ahmadis across the border in hidustan? How are they treated in hindustan? u can always say “Eid Mubarak” to me. I ignore the zia-ulloo-haq and his kind.

Ahmadis are considered Muslims in every country except for Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Ahmadis have a long history of being persecuted in Pakistan.

re: Many killed in Lahore in an attack on Ahmadi Masjid

i feel very bad for this bombing..it is not fair to the ahmedis..y cant they and the christians be left to live in peace in pakistan?

That's irrelevant. Pakistan is the only nation in the world that has officially legislated on the issue, and has legally declared Ahmadis non-Muslim. In fact, when the cases have gone to court in places like South Africa and India, people like yourself have lost.

Ahmadis in every other country in the world can go to Hajj, call themselves Muslim, and call their places of worship mosques without fear of any legal repercussions.

Hopefully this unfortunate tragedy will serve as an impetus to repeal the discriminatory and oppressive anti-Ahmadi laws in Pakistan. This is a wake-up call to the entire country - the Munir Commission was right; kowtowing to the Islamist extremists will only destroy Pakistan. These are the very same people who fought tooth and nail against the Muslim League and the creation of Pakistan...but being the shameless political opportunists that they are, they just waltzed over after Partition and expected that the reigns of government just be handed over to them. The Ahmedis are just the first of their scapegoats...they killed 2,000 of them in 1953, yesterday they killed another 100.

These people need to be stamped out and eliminated before they destroy Pakistan.

Well while no other country has passed such backwards legislation, there are countries that have caved into pressure or have atleast in principle acknowledged Ahmadis as something other then Muslim.

In Bangladesh for example, protests by extremists led to a sign that read something along the lines of "This is an Ahmadi house of worship, and should not be confused for a mosque."

And as far as I know, the reason why such legislation is limited to Pakistan, is not for some enlightened policies of other Muslim countries, but because most other Muslim countries dont even have an Ahmadi community of any significance to speak of.

re: Many killed in Lahore in an attack on Ahmadi Masjid

We should hold religious debates in religion section. Here the issue is as simple as it could be. One group of people killed another group of people. Those who were attacked are victims. Those who did it are aggressors and must be punished for this crime.
Religion of victims and aggressors is absolutely a secondary issue. Primary issue is terrorism and violence ... by anyone against anyone.

re: Many killed in Lahore in an attack on Ahmadi Masjid

Khoon shaheedan e ummat ka ae kum-nazar, raigaan kab gaya tha ke ab jaaye ga,
Her shahadat tere dekhte dekhte, phool phal laaye gi, phool phal jaaye gi.

This sounds like a pathetic excuse(in veil, pun intented) to justify anti-ahmadi legislation. Call spade a spade, will u?

Well that because you missed my point entirely... I suggest you not make lame assumptions when you dont know a single thing about me or what I believe.

Im not justifying anti Ahmadi legislation, im only pointing out the fact that there should be no illusion of other Muslim countries being any better. The sad truth is that all Muslim are pretty much as bigoted towards Ahmadis as those in Pak. All supposed Muslims harbor such resentment, but its only PAKISTAN that has put on paper.

I dont need to justify myself further to you.

Thank for clearing that up, but we are citadel of islam, land of pure, the champion of muslims right at all the world forum, shouldnt we be better than other muslim nations? or at least hindustan?

re: Many killed in Lahore in an attack on Ahmadi Masjid

Ahmadis are pakistan's residents and will always have pakistan in their hearts as their nation. Pakistan cannot change that fact. Ahmadis need to be recognized as humans first then anything else. What happened in Lahore was an act of cowards and hatred. For absolute no reason. This is the same kind of hatred that Hitler had for Jews. There is no difference. The pakistani nation needs to stand up and defend its citizens first and foremost and then divide the country into jews, hindus, Ahmadis and Ismailis etc.

Pakistan is a so called nation of "islamic" values. A country where a mosque needs to be defended from so called terrorists. Even in the west, there is no need for security at mosques or placess of worship. This is the sadness behind the truth and the irony of the nation called pakistan.
