I agree with Dr Israr’s stance on it ..

I see mannat as setting a condition infront of Allah .. that is something I completely see as disrespectful to the Almighty ..

We can do a gesture of thanks without putting a condition .. for example , I make a dua and Allah SWA accepts it and blesses me , as a gesture of thanks I do khairaat or nafals or roza’s .. I feel that is a positive way of saying thanks ..

But when people say if Allah does this for me , then i will do this and that … I feel Allah doesnt need materialistic acts out of us !

This reminds me actually of a time when I sat my GCSE’s and thought I was definitely going to flip in one or two of them .. and did a mannat of 1000 nafals if I passed ! .. but somewhere in my heart I knew I was putting a condition infront of Allah and felt so bad for doing that .. I decided to do my 1000 nafals before the results came as a gesture of apology for putting the condition . I am glad I did that , coz the feeling of guilt left me .. and Alhumdullillah Allah blessed me with excellent results as well .

so yeah, there’s a difference between doing good deeds as a gesture of Thanks and doing good deeds as part of a condition ..

Allah says ask ME, that doesn’t mean that one should try to nauuzobillah bribe Allah…ask whatever ‘jaaiz’ thing you wanna ask and let Allah decide if it’s good for you or if it’s in your best interest. that’s the reason the etiquette of du’aa requires you to say **“O’Allah, grant me my wishes ONLY if it’s in my best ineterest!” **… once it has been granted then you may do whatever good deeds/sadaqaat you wanna do…putting conditions on good deeds/sadaqaat ahead of your wishes and it’s fulfillment is just NOT a good/recommended way of asking Allah to grant your wishes.

it’s NOT Haraam but an indecent way of asking Allah for His favours.

I agree with CB i think its wrong, also when people say mainay maanat mangi huwi hai or salaam dayna hai at such a darbar or a baba from a well known mountain area and that we will give a bhakra or a daig chawaal if such a thing happens, is it wrong? I know my own family in pak have done this, but after reading the above it seems wrong now.

I agree with CB on the majority of what she has presented…it makes sense to me.
Allah truly is in no need of anything from us, material or not for He has enough makhlooq that do nothing but worship Him 24x7.
Ultimately anything that we do in life can only harm or benefit ourselves.

I also understand the part about the “jaiz mangain”…but what about the fact that we never really know what is “good” for us?

What if Allah deemed something totally innocent to be harmful for us at a particular time…e.g. what if passing all her GCSEs was not in CB’s best interest yet uss nay mannat maan lee hoti? then what?

Those who said asking ‘mannat’ is disrespectful, not good/recommeneded and like putting ahead conditions, I would like to say that we read namaaz, which is almost same except funeral and eid prayers. At very beginning we do first “Niyat” that i’m offering two or four rakats of fajer or dhuhar or any other namaaz otherwise we at our own won’t knows which namaaz we are about to offer?

So giving away something after fulfilment of any ‘manaat’ is not equal to ‘charity (sadqa)’. It is different and some1 who do extra struggle for it will be rewarded extra in additions of all other rewards which we get in returns of ‘Arkaan-e-Islam’.
