I have a family history of hypertension and have maintained a healthy blood pressure so far. The past 2 months or so, I have been at the doctors a few times for other issues and each time, my blood pressure has been elevated.
I will be seeing my doc in a few days but meanwhile, other than reducing sodium intake, what are some other ways of managing your blood pressure?
Dont watch any Pakistani/Indian TV dramas.. Seriously. My mom sees it all the time and whenever I look at the screen, someone is either crying or talking something depressing.. So do avoid it
maybe you just have a genetic disposition.. in that case diet and exercise won't be enough and you might be prescribed a beta blocker or something. ask your doc about it.
tea helps in relaxing the arteries so it can also reduce high blood pressure. But tea with milk loses it's vasodilation effects so it's better to drink tea without milk.
Eat banana's they have a lot of potassium, i keep trying to tell my mom if she ate more banana's she wouldn't have to eat BD medicine but she doesn't listen to me. I've also noticed my mom finds things extra salty when her BP is higher than usual. Definately cut down on the salt.
my spouses entire family has that condition even girls n boys in their early 20s i guess its genetic, but diet alone wudnt help, other factors like harmones, stress wud aggreviate the situation.
they hav tried it all, but now they r all taking medicine for that.
may Allah give u shifa. ameen
Prevent Insulin Resistance (Type II diabetes)
- Weight reduction if you are overweight (I am not assuming you are, but in general for others who might find this info helpful)
- Aerobic Exercise
Decrease Sodium < 200mg/serving- avoid processed cheeses, canned foods and soy sauce in addition to the regular stuff
Increase potassium, calcium and magnesium- NOT BY SUPPLEMENTS but by natural means b/c adding the supplements actually does not work. You have to eat it in regular foods.
Some people are caffeine sensitive and their body doesn't process it well which worsens bp, so you might want to decrease your intake.
If your bp is still high or you can't keep up the habits, get on meds asap and stick to them because untreated hypertension can slowly cause irreversible damage to the heart, kidneys and eyes.
