Mambo?

I remember someone here was using mambo.. does anyone know how to make customize themes? any experienced person wanting to write a little short quick to the point and good tutorial…? maybe others will get some knowledge from it too

thanks

Re: Mambo?

yupp me.

themes? you mean templates!

Yes, its not so easy to tell in a few words or lines.. there are a few tutorials around.
You can use macromedia dreamweaver for that prupose and a plugin which is made for this purpose.

Re: Mambo?

Thanks Gizzy, now is it worth using Mambo? or did you find some other CMS/Blog tool to be better?

Re: Mambo?

^-- yupp surely is worth using, of course depends on what exactly you want to do?

But I am a fan of mambo CMS. And the upcoming 4.5.3 release promises to be even better, with even more features.

Re: Mambo?

For those who are not aware, Mira actually kicked all the core developers out and have created their own coders team. The old core team split and started their own fork of Mambo called Joomla! http://www.joomla.org. I would suggest to wait a little while before you start a site with Mambo.

What exactly you wanna do with your site anyways Ansoon?

Re: Mambo?

well just playing around.. actually i have been looking at all blogging solutions like moveable type, wordpress and s9y .. socha kay lets look into mambo as well :)

Re: Mambo?

I don't like Mambo. It don't have too much options in admin panel. I am now using s9y for my tutorials website, skining is pretty easy but for my another new site I will use geeklog. Tonite I will make skin and some other changes according to my needs.

Re: Mambo?

the coding team wasn’t kicked out. they left by themselves. The old team hasn’t split up. the whole team has moved to Joomla. The developers don’t see it as a fork.
This is what they said on FAQ over Joomla

"No, it is a rebranding effort that will continue to run largely on the existing codebase. Work is continuing on the project by the same team that had developed Mambo up to August 2005. Therefore, we see it as continuing development rather than a ‘fork’. "

Re: Mambo?

s9y is a blogging system with CMS addons . Mambo/Joomla is CMS with blogging addons.

I don’t think u can compare the two.

Re: Mambo?

Both do the same job.

Re: Mambo?

I meant to say they split up from Miro not from each other. I used to post there and I was there when whole team was banned from the forums and admin rights were being taken from them.

The word “fork” was used because I was talking to one of the core devolpers of Joomla and he used it often.

Re: Mambo?

Ofcourse there are others out there, including PhpWCMS, which is very lean (although it takes a little getting used to at first but its the fastest loading CMS software). Other easy ones are PhpNuke (dohh) and PostNuke. It all depends on what you are trying to do frankly. For me the best fit was Tikiwiki (as I’d posted numerous times) as it had the best of all worlds. Including blogs, RSS integration, picture gallery, a directory (for external links, sorta like a bookmarks section), an articles section, polls, forums yada yada (Tiki CMS / Groupware features). So play around with them and choose the one u like best.

Re: Mambo?

If thats what u think they u don’t understand what a CMS is and what is a blog.

mambo is compared to Drupal not s9y
s9y is compared to wordpress.

Re: Mambo?

Tikiwiki is one of those idiotic programs that uses Imagemagick for thumbnail generation
When will people realize that Imagemagick is not installed on hosting services. why the frack do they use a program that just isn’t available. Thumbail generation is a very imp feature. use GD instead for god sake.

Why oh why should i pay $10 for PHPnuke when i have gazillions of free opensource to select from.

Re: Mambo?

FYI, I am not comparing. If you have little knowledge of php/mysql you can make mambo s9y and s9y mambo.

Re: Mambo?

do one thing. go to s9y forum and post this statement.
garvin will happily clarify it.

u can make mambo do s9y stuff cause its a simple stripping down of features. but not the other way around. Lot of stuff in s9y will have to be changed and added or removed to make itto a CMS.

Re: Mambo?

Lame reply!

Re: Mambo?

comeon go to the forum and post it.
whats the shame. If u think it requires LITTLE of php/mysql knowledge, then go post.
Stop whinning on gushup. go to s9y

Re: Mambo?

Anything is possible dude!

Re: Mambo?

I am not whinning, I am laughing.
