Hey, don’t count me among those shmucks! I have always been against his appointment as captain, specially when he cannot warrant a spot in the test side even now.
i was thinking why cant vice captain give him some of those obvious (like u guys have mentioned above) tips, isnt younis khan the vc? what is he doing then? cant he tell malik we should move the field up when we are defending close to nothing?
also if we compare the 2 new captains, dhoni has a more mature team to lead while malik is leading bunch of drama babies, can make his job more difficult...

I cannot agree with you more!!! you are spot on...Younis himself also lacks passion I think Malik does have passion but it is getting bogged down. We simply have too much of respect/seniority thing in our team where shahid bhai, shoaib bhai etc etc can dictate a younger / junior captain. Bloody respect factor isnt letting him break out loose and say right boys inseatd of bhai jan please etc and firat all cylinders.
Coming back to Younis he is a piss taker he refused the lead roles before. He is a two faced person i am sorry to say. He should really get in there and help Malik out with decision and ongoing tactical game play. One cannot fully blame at Malik.
However, Malik is definately wrong in coming out play at number 6/7 he should come out and face the reality and number 3 position and lead by example which Inzimam also could not do.
Why do you think Younis backed out of captaincy? Nobody is willing to listen to the poor guy. He has a sharp cricketing mind, and if he is given full authority before a captaincy reign, you will see a real leader in the fielder instead of a phuddu yes-man like Malik.
We have to remember that Wasim Akram's first stint as a captain was flop. He was labelled as immautre and the one who caused divisions in the team. Second time was a charm, Pakistan went to the finals. Imran Khan also resigned twice as a captain. Younis rejection was un timely and wrong, but his talent can not be overlooked. He just needs to take the role. Pakistan needs him.
^ don't worry after the widely-expected humiliation in Australia (I mean let's not kid ourselves, just look at the way the Aussies destroyed SLA in the first test inside 4 days) I am sure Malik ka saara bukhaar uttar jaye ga and he will do the honourable thing and resign
If the Captain also happens to be the best player in the team, that usually takes care of half his problems. I mean, that thing by itself attracts respect from the other players.
In Malik's case, aside from the fact that he lacks obvious leadership qualities, he is also no Inzimam or Tendulkar.....therefore I can see why Malik would have a hard time acting as the "Boss" of the team.
^ On the contrary.... a thorough drubbing from Australia is always expected, so it won't lead to Malik's resigning. Inzi got a similar drubbing but didn't resign. Heck, even Akram got a 3-0 drubbing in 1999 but didn't resign.

No, in Pakistan (and probably India too) the senior/junior culture is very pervasive, so it's difficult for a junior to boss around his seniours. A senior would always be referred to as Afridi Bhai, Yousuf Bhai, etc etc.. and it's hard to shake that habit. Anothe reason is that captaincy is temporary... it could be taken away any time and then you'd have to live with/play under the very people you pissed off and bossed around.
The only players who could get away with this are those who are international superstars in their own right. Only four players from the current Pak team fit the bill: Younis, Yousif, Shoaib Akhtar, and Mohammad Asif. None of these, if made captain, would have the problem that Malik is having: no-one can question their place in the team, and they'd have no qualms making tough calls and calling spade a spade.

Appreciate what you are saying but the situation is slightly different this time around. In 2004 Inzi missed the last two tests thru injury and Yousuf (who's equally thanda & hardly inspirational) took over as captain. Inzi was very much the best choice then and hence there was no public outcry. Since that series Younis has grown in stature as a batsman and has already shown immense potential as a leader in various short stints as stand-in captain. Malik knows he is captain by default and that his deputy is not only a better batsman than him but also a better leader of men. So the public and the media are bound to call for a change if we suffer another humiliation in Australia.
Barring a miracle we should prepare ourselves for a 4th successive 3-0 whitewash at the hands of the Australians!

Well said and totally agreed. In the 3rd ODI, Malik moved the second slip out against Ganguly, and the very next ball from Gul, Ganguly edged it right where 2nd slip would have been. Younis Khan's expression was priceless at that time...and right away he kept signalling to Malik that bring the 2nd slip back. The point being, had Younis been captain im sure he would have never taken that 2nd slip out so early when the ball was moving around so much. Younis is a an aggressive captain...and always wants to make things happen...where as Malik just hopes things would happen for him on the field.

Exactly. Everytime I have seen Younis captain, he tries to go for the kill and get wickets instead of just sitting there and waiting for things to happen. It's too bad we made such a wrong decision in choosing Malik as the leader.
