yeah i hv seen the drama in retelecast on Sony i find it quite interesting :K: i think its based on a book written by RK Narayan

Definitely please read the book first instead. I enjoyed reading it very much as a child.

But the drama is veryyyy interesting,and I haven't read the book but I'm sure you will find drama equally interesting then the book...all the characters are so interesting,I was child myself wen I watched that drama on sony becuz my father used to watch that:) so I also watched:)

As i read a part of book and watched the tv series....tv series was very near to the book IMO....
the director shankar naag did great job.....

Yep the drama was a good adaption but nothing beats reading the original IMO...:)
Also read Swami and Friends by the same author if U can. That is another fine childhood memory ...:)

english, and definitely read the book. very easy reading, no pretenses. if you have seen the dev anand movie "guide", that was one of his books too.

Book is better and in English. But the TV adaptation is 10 times better than most of the cr@p that we are force-fed these days in the name of Hindi entertainment.

Malgudi days is definitely one of the best TV series made in the indian subcontinent. all kids should watch it.

no. It is malgudi. Gudi= temple in village colloquialism . Many villages and small towns in S.India with old temples have been named with a "gudi" at the end. Malgudi is one such fictional place.

i thought it was about a rag merchant as mal-gudRii in Urdu means rag merchant who deals in ends of fabrics both used and new. hamaare gaaoN men bahot aate the mal-gudRiye who used to trade crockeries and utensils for rag pieces. :)

yes, and RK Laxman drew the pictures for credits on the tv shows of malgudi days. both these men are from a class that has vanished or got diluted in today's india's masala culture.
