Malgudi days is definitely one of the best TV series made in the indian subcontinent. all kids should watch it.
Is it for children only? I thought it deals with rural life of South India

No. Both children and adults will enjoy it. The initial literature is not aimed at kids. It does portray life in a typical S Indian small town in the British era.

the only other writer i have come across writing about a similar era with a similar tone from north india is Ruskin Bond. if you like RK Narayan, you probably will like Ruskin Bond too. and as a bonus, he’s no punda. ; )

really enjoyed this series as kid,love swami and his friends.
there use to be another similar kind of series in Doordarshan called stone boy or something
PS:also gudi means temple in telugu

Yes, read it ages ago and loved it to bits. I haven't seen the t.v. series so cannot comment on that.
