So I get really confused in what words are male and female in urdu its really hard
My mum is trying to help me out in improving my urdu.
She said pretty much all transport items are female so like you would say ‘ki’ instread of ‘ka’ before that word.
Are there are any general rules about male and female words or is it all pretty random?

one general rule (not always correct)..is......anything that sounds like 'eee' in the end is female...
kursee, larkee, murgee, etc....
its crude, and doesn't always work...but sometimes it works...

Re: Male and Female Words in Urdu
there are NO such things as a group that are either male or female. every word is individually of feminine or masculine gender. if you look up at any urdu dictionary, u will find that every word's gender is listed. you get the feel once you start speaking the language. you obviously can't memorize them all. it comes naturally.

correct. to extend your suggestion, anything that ends with "aa" is usually male.
TV-ee = female
Sofa-aa = male
khota vs khoti.
murga vs murgi
joota vs jooti
etc

Re: Male and Female Words in Urdu
It is not always true as KKF said , like moolee and gajar are both feminine in Urdu.

tv is male.
you will always say sentences like "yeh tv kis ne rakha hai" "yeh tv kaisa hai"
you WILL NOT say "yeh tv kis ne rakhi hai" "yeh tv kaisi hai"

Re: Male and Female Words in Urdu
Pani (water) i guess at one time used for both male and female like:
Pani behta hy - Male
Ganga behti hy - Female.
All depends on sentence.
