Malaysia and Thailand

Thinking of visiting these 2 countries for a 10-12 day trip. Any recommendations on what cities to go to and what places to visit? I just started researching on the web, but thought if i could get some personal opinions too it’ll be a big help.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

phuket…dad went there and said an amazing place.

for Malaysia…i gonna ask malay friend directly :clown:

ps. if i joined this site 8-9 years ago i would ask my prince uncle to show you the place…but he is no more. MAY ALLAH SWT REST HIS SOUL IN PEACE.

ps2. do collect fact and information for me.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

One of the (very miniscule) reason for selecting these 2 countries was because i loved the names of their currencies:
Malaysia - Ringgit
Thailand - Baht

Zob, knowledge mein izafa hua?

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

wow :smokin:

i never try to find out their currencies before…thnx :k:

btw in k haan wo jo haar nahi hotay…i mean pakistan main phooloon k hootay hain na…thailand main sea-shells k hootay hain :cb:

ps. i said seashell not khopri :hehe:

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

An update, I don't think I'm going to be able to get to Thailand. I would have time enuff to go Singapore for a day trip tho (dont know how i forgot about Singapore). Any suggestions on that are wlecome too. :)

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

You need at least 3 days for Singapore. I was there a few months ago. Might be going to Malaysia in the coming months.

I can tell you about Singapore though. It is EXPENSIVE, unlike Indonesia and probably Malaysia.

There's a lot to see in Singapore and you can take the train (very cheap and safe) to pretty much everywhere. If you take the train, you get your money back when you reach your destination. For example, to go to Sentosa Island from Orchard Street is about, say for example, $2.60. When you reach Sentosa, you get $1.00 back. It's not much but I guess an incentive from the government for people to use the trains.

In Singapore, you should visit Little India (more like little Madras), Sentosa Island, China Town, Boats Quay/Clarks Quay (especially at night time), Arab Town and the Gondala to the top of the mountain where you can see all of Singapore. There's also a night time safari, which sounds cool (didn't get to do it).

I walked a lot in Singapore, which was great. You should aim to see 3 areas in a day. Although Singapore is a small country/island, there is a lot to see and do. It's extremely western though, not much culture (at least none that I saw).

If we go to Kuala Lumpur, I will put an update in this thread. My bro will be visiting Singapore/Malaysia and Indonesia in the coming months so I'll ask him to post his thoughts/experiences here too.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

wow!

thnx...if i ever gonna visit singapore then i definitely gonna contact you :)

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

u cant cover much in a day in singapore. as mehnazq said, though its small, there's much to explore. depending on ur interests i guess. u can either explore chinatown, little india, orchard etc and shop at da same time or u can just stick to places of interests such as sentosa. night safari etc. btw dun be shy to experiment local food.
and honestly, local neighbourhoods such as geylang bazaar or bedok town are so much more interesting and cheaper than tourist spots.

as for malaysia, the city of kuala lumpur is very much like singapore. u can get more info with ur hotel reception to visit other states such as malacca, langkawi, tioman, penang etc
shopping is definitely cheaper in malaysia.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

I've been told that Bali is a lot better than Phuket simply cause you see more Indonesian culture in Bali, whereas in Phuket it's just too western and for tourists. Everybody who I have spoken to has told me that in Bali, and the surrounding islands, they've held on to their culture and not allowed tourism to take over. I haven't been to Phuket, but we will inshallah be going to Bali soon.

I really want to go to Bangkok. I've heard it's crazy, scary and yet simply amazing there.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

I love the train system in Singapore. It's like London, UK, except much cleaner, more organized and I really like how they encourage giving seats to elderly people.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

u just reminded me i havent taken the train for ages! hehe

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

Take a train from KL to Bohro in south... the same train would take u to Singapore.. spend some time there.. and come back to Malaysia...

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

I guess u still need a visa to singapore with a Pakistani passport? I was thinking doing a day trip from Kuala Lumpur.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

yup. visa u need.
i wud advise u to take a flight or coach from KL to singapore.
the train is a pain! i find it too slow and uncomfortable.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

What is the night safari? When you say coach, do you mean a bus or the coach seat on a plane?
Wherever I go I try to stay away from touristy places. Culture and local tastes is what i want. I was thinking of spending a few days in Langkawi, heard it was better than phuket.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

LENGKAWI by all means.

I have been to Phuket also---but that place is peanuts in front of Lengkawi.

I have been there thrice...initially for 10 days shoot of CHAHATAIN in Aug-2002 and I thought there could be no beauty aglore then in Lengkawi....with its crystal beaches, the ancient palace, the big EAGLE, the casino, the malls...and that beauty of a drive by the side of Bay of Bengal.

We drove from KL to Penang (8.5 hours) via Laketown we spent the night...then next day we took a boat from Penang for an hour cruise to Legkawi. After the shoot we flew back to Lengkawi on a 38 minute flight.

LENGKAWI is a beautiful place....dont miss it for the world...when you are in Malaysia.

Khush Rahein...

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

Another question: How feasible is it to rent a car in KL? I mean I could just drive over to Singapore instead of bus or train.

Re: Malaysia and Thailand

Will not advise driving the car yourself all the way to Singapore from KL !

Yes…you can drive within KL. I did and there’s no bother. You’ll just have to be vigilant on the murky ones…like the SCOOTER drivers who turn out large on roads.

The best could be that you take a train or a coach to Singapore. Its mesmerizing and highly enjoyable. I did that in my last trip of August-2007.

Also..if you can…you must visit GENTING HIGHLAND (The Nathiagali of Malaysia) some 45 minutes drive from KL. Its simply exquisite…the weather—on 4 and the clouds passing by your hotel room and the biggest THEME PARK of ASIA… (see pic of Genting ambiance below).
You’ll want to extend your stay…I promise you that!

Here…see the pic of KLCC (Perronas Tower) I took during my last trip to Malaya…

Selamat Detang !
