Such a stupid thread.... measuring relationships in dollars!

at the end of the day, if you want YOU really LOVE the person and want to live like a family, then YOU can be HAPPY with the husband making minimum wage! (notice i said husband only, wife as a housewife). Don't tell me it's not possible, i have many examples and I grew up in a household where the father worked for minimum wage!
We are such a lost society, poor souls, always after material dunya.. May God help us.
Re: Making money [split from Get your act together....]
We survived in Florida on $36k (a year) for a whole year...... yes, we had to make some sacrifices (mainly dining out and movie theaters, electronics and gadgets, etc.) but yeah, we had cable, internet and TV.... all for under $200 a month, we rented an apt for $450 a month and it was in an okay area (not a ghetto). It really was not that tough since we didn't have any kids. So yeah, PCG's expectations of $50k a year in the beginning sounds okay to me (is totally do-able), especially in FL where there's no State Tax.
Re: Making money [split from Get your act together....]
People who want to be happy can BE happy even with 40k a year. It's all about your needs and being grateful for what you have. The more money you make, the more your wishlist grows, it's natural. You start making a few thousand dollars more and suddenly you feel like splurging on that amazing phone or increasing your dine out habits.
I have seen some of the most content and happiest people in my family who used to make no more than 30-40k and knew how to manage it really, really well.
Re: Making money [split from Get your act together....]
Money should never be the source of happiness but you can not deny that it makes things easier. How many people married folks have disputes over money? Enough said..
I think the bigger problems occur when the wife is materialistic or the husband money hungry or cheap.
Re: Making money [split from Get your act together....]
I believe that to affix a money tag to guy is wrong and unfair. So a guy is eligible only if he has such and such degree and makes a certain amount of money? That's kind of shallow and stupid in my opinion. Not every person in this world has the same level of intelligence, the same level of income, and the same 'personality type'. There are many hard working people in the world who barely make the ends meet, and there are others who are complete asses and they are wallowing in money. Hence a person shouldn't be judged by how much money he/she can make. Our rizq is predetermined by Allah, and we are going to get it one way or another. Some people, despite their best efforts cannot earn more than what has been destined for them.
Also, what about those poor guys who cannot make 50k a year? What about those who aren't brilliant acedemically speaking? What should they do? Whatever happened to the idea of nobility(yani sharafat) and a good nature? Do they count for nothing?
Money doesn't ensure happiness for you, it's how you view money that makes a difference. I personally believe that materialism makes you shallow and selfish.
