I was in the engineering uni weight lifting team, together with the Afghan boy Mikey whose family owns bbq tonight, at my peak would bench 300 lbs, now a bit rusty so say 240. Never been a runner but still hiking around 20k. Jason is older so he is a bit faster, running is not our main sport we are sprint kayakers, my oldest competed in Nationals and Canada games, we are hoping both brothers qualify this year. Sizes me Chest 48 height 5- 11 still can curl 60 lbs dumbells. Oldest 19 yr told me he does 40 chin ups in 2 minutes and is benching with 85 lbs dumbells. Harris at 14 is 5th fastest in the province. We are not going to invest for Olympics as it is a huge gamble. Sports is mostly to teach them about life. I see obese unhealthy, unfit young men around me, I didnt want them to be like that. Older runs a mile in less than 5 mins. People with sports background get everything easier, older coaches making 18 bucks an hour, got in fraternity because of sports, will get jobs because of it also and also life partner. He has six pack.
He is only 14 and his first road race, I am definitely happy with him even participating. Running is not his sport. Most people cant even stand in a Blizzard let alone run it.
On a side note, this thread has inspired me to go listen to Mulan - i’ll make a man out of you. I think you’ll have better results telling him to listening to this song. 100% results
TBH, running a half marathon in the winter is kind of bad ass, but than I realized I used to do this on the daily when you have to jog home in negative temperatures after school cause you don’t have a ride. So no, not really bad ass… Just a normal Canadian experience.
Overall by trying to be a good example myself. One of the first things would be to get them in the habit of going to the masjid daily early on and encouraging them to follow other people’s good examples as well.
I am so proud of him today as he is showing his gentle caring and nurturing side today. Safys gf is down with stomach flu and he is all concerned for her and asked me to show him how to make soup for her. I taught him how to make Chicken soup with potatoes and carrots and maybe noodles or rice. A real man is a combination of hard and soft. Strong but caring.
I told you not to indulge your family stories here rather goto blog section. I even put a message in another thread and you ignored that too.
You just dont listen to anything in the nice words probably so keep repeating and we’ll see what we can do about it. May be get the list of your false accusations handy.
Your valiant Knight in shining armor is mad at me again and giving veiled threats and might ban me again or the dreaded 25 points so I best not respond today and help Safy cook.
So they were boys when I started this thread and now strapping 6 ft tall, when I look around me I feel so proud of making them into real man especially when I saw Safys room mates. This Egyptian guy smokes a lot, is lazier than hell, does not pick up after himself and does not cook and plays video games or watches movies all the time and this kid from Ecuador back ground, again very messy and drinks day and night.
Safy, is really upset with their messiness and having to clean up after them and they would be too lazy to buy groceries and would eat his groceries. What kind of parenting are these guys receiving.
Safy made friends with some cool Indian foreign students, Trehan is from Chandigarh and has helped him out a lot, he was talking about what two kinds of Indians are, he said one kind is more open, happy and friendly and the other is more mean. I guess he was talking about Gujratis. I told him that gujratis and punjabis dont always get along and dont let Trehans prejudice effect him.
