How to deal with someone who conducts an orchestra while eating , you know, loud sipping noises , burping , cutlery to crockery encounter noise , chewing etc etc ?
No it is not one of my friends or relatives , it is something I noticed at a party where the person next to me but whom I have never met before, was conducting that food opera.
Moving to another place was not an option because it was formal dining room of someone with only 8 seats and all filled up.
I guess I need to keep ear plugs in my pocket for situations like these.
Well ya some older folks do that eh!. But i personally find burping very disgusting while eating..some people might burp loudly. And my apetite is killed right there and then. It happened with me..when i was at this masjid for fundraising dinner. The way uncles eat ova there..as if they have never eaten biryani before!..
Wow, listen to the nawasay nawasiyaan of Lord Mountbatten here.
Different people eat differently and not everyone the perfect table manners. I have shared a table/meal with a variety of people, from those stuck up top management/business tycoon type snobs who can't eat a grape without a shiny knife and a fork, and with security guards, NCOs and mechanics. To be honest I am much more comfortable eating with the latter lot rather than the former variety. The noise and burping doesn't bother me, perhaps I am not that sensitive. But yeh, I do agree that you should know how to act appropriately in the given environment. I kind of feel embarrassed for someone who is chomping like the cookie monster at a corporate dinner and getting those looks.
You lot should try joining our tribals or Arab bedouins at a meal, that will do wonders for your sensitivity. :D
lol, what can you really do? I once went for dinner at a friend’s house and her Mom starting eating like that. Turns out, that’s how she always eats. Needless to say, it was very awkward since I couldn’t eat and my friend, her siblings and her dad were eating normally. I don’t know if they were ignoring it or had gotten used to it.
^I am sure you're the only one who enjoys sloppy/slurpy/moist/wet sounds (WHOATHATSOUNDEDDIRTY) while eating. Also, in Japan it's considered good etiquette to slurp while eating noodles to indicate how delish they taste, heh.
