Hi All,
Just been reading the nightmare stories of MUA (Make up Artists) in Pakistan and was wondering if anyone did their own make up on their wedding day
I am thinking that with an empty room and the proper make up it shouldn’t be too bad even if it is a more simple barely there look.
I am serioulsy considering it as I prefer simple make up (almost not there) and maybe some you tube practice and maybe a few paid make up lessons may be the best way
Please come with your stories and would love to see pics too
Mahismart - I couldn’t find any threads related to this so please feel free to merge if you think best
Go for the parlor. It's really hard to get the same finish. And there are a lot of goos parlors now that do more natural makeup. Where are you getting married?

It depends where you're getting married but most of Pakistan there aren't good parlours that do more natural makeup (or even nice make up by my standards).
I didn't even have an empty room! I had all my family getting ready and constantly coming in and out too!
I had my hair done at the salon beforehand though. Then after I had finished my makeup a skilled aunty pinned my duputta.
It is speculative at the moment but would be probably in Azad Kashmir and I really really really hate the caked look which is quite popular in those regions
My sis in law had it done and serioulsy I did not like it
And believe it or not I think I look better with no make up than with make up and my patience with nakhray wali's hasn't got a great track record..
Maybe have a lady come to the home might be a better idea.. and a trial befor hand but I think it is always good to know that I have basic know how to be able to this even if it is for the mehndi..

Could I see pics stoppit..
I have a similar persona to you so would much prefer it.. rather than the dreaded bhootni look and please don't mind my comments girls but most dulhans I have noticed look older than they are without make up compared to on their wedding days and I will be probably be the only bride who is older than her prospective husband so don't want that..

if you think you look better than you're probably right. trust your own judgement. clearly, i'm not saying go without it but you will know how to do it best to enhance your features, what colours look right on you etc.
i get the feeling in Pakistan that you are expected to wear a lot of makeup on your wedding and it should match your outfit, whether it enhances your looks or not.
and lol.. i'm slightly older than mr.stoppit too :)
there are some good parlors, like bina khan and sabs in karachi.. i'm going to do my mehndi make-up myself but i'll prolly be too stressed out to do my own make up on my wedding!
my mami did her own waleema make up, when we saw the pictures you could tell a difference between the shadi make, that was from a parlour and the waleema make up..
Yea, you have some choice if you are getting married somewhere like Karachi. There is an assumption here that everyone that gets married in Pakistan does in the big, modern cities, when really they don't.
My aunty did her hair and make up. It was really beautiful, It looked like she got it professionally done. However there are alot of good MUA now, You can always get a trial done first to see if you like it. If not, i dont see why not, Go for it.
if you want a professional finish without leaving your wedding day face in the hands of a stranger-- which I am afraid of as well!.. you could try an hd foundation like MUFE which diffuses the light on your skin and kind blurs out imperfections. Also try different application techniques like a stippling brush instead of a regular foundation brush.. or layering with a cosmetic sponge. if you really want to go all out, get an airbrushing system, like the Temptu from Sephora. I know that sounds scary because "airbrush=unnatural" but this system gives you an incredibly flawless coverage but doesn't cake on at all! you can adjust how much product you want to go on your skin so you can take it from a really natural "barely there" look to higher intensity looks. Either way you do it, you'll look like you came straight out of a skincare product commercial. Try it at the store, you'll love it! And definitely look into different finishing powders. they make a huge difference if you get the right one.
My khala's did their own make up...and they looked fab! i dont see why u cudnt do it urself :) if the salon make up is not my type in pak then i mite consider doin my own...
I did my own makeup for my engagement a few months ago. There were no MUA or salons where I live (an American "Pind") so I had no choice. But everyone has told me it looked great and professional. I posted pics here on GS and I had guppans PMing me about where I had got gotten it done. The makeup turned out nice in both the professional and non-professional pics as well which made me happy.
I could have travelled a half hour to the next pind over where they had some crappy salon... but in my case I wanted dramatic eye makeup and know that gori's living in my area have no concept of that. So I trusted my own skills over that. So if you trust your own skills over others - I say go for it! You have plenty of time to practice too and get the perfect products. :) You can figure out yourself what kind of makeup look you want to achieve and how to achieve it.
